It's been more than 50 years since Nehru announced that reservations would be imposed on a trial basis.Don't u think reservations are nothing but shortcuts availed by the wealthy and the powerful to prosperity.I strongly feel that reservations should be based only on economic grounds and not on caste ones as they are done right now.By that way every poor guy from whatever caste he is would be benefitted.But again all the loopholes in producing income certificates must be corked.

  Sounds like a great idea. But how do we "cork" that fake income tax certificates? Even then colleges can accept "donations" and admit people as being economically disadvantaged. Tough case in a place like India with so much fake papers easily available.

  Reservations are necesary. Otherwise, the non brahmins can never come up. They can never match the brahmins in wit/intelligence/talent.

  The UPA govt. has promised reservations for the OBCs and the dalit communities - in the Private sector organisations too!!

  the argument that the reservation should be based on economic status not on caste basis, is relavant for our country only to some extend and in rare cicumstances.obviously all we are aware of the social norms(caste,religion,and other imposed rules by cate-minded groups) that have kept a particluar gruop of people(especially sc\st) in a distresed condition in our country.those unwritten conventions shuold be weeded out first.then only it is possible to give reservation based on economic status.till that time reservation must be considered as an elevation to thse caste -religiuos vioctims.it cannot be ruled out that there are poor people in other comunities,but if you look at the issue in terms of social status, religiuos caste victims are far away from the socially developed group.example could be given-no inter dining,no intercaste marriages,separate graveyards
