The native language of Mandya is Kannada, but Tamilians also live there like they do all over India. About the vegetarian question, no part of India is purely vegetarian :) In any city, you will find vegetarians and non-vegetarians. Also, some people who were vegetarians 200 years ago might be non-vegetarians today or vice versa it all depends on the level of sanskritization within the caste to which they belong. For e.g., there are saiva mudaliars and asaiva mudaliars :) Hope this helps.

There is a Tamil caste called Mandradiar which could get shortened to Mandiar or Mundiar in SA

manadiar is a cast in palkkad dist kerala.they have martial relations with nairs,they are big landowners some of them using sir names like tharakan.they were kshtriya community.chathkutty mannadiar was a famous poet,his son Dr.a.r.menon was a minister in first communist ministry.
