Hi ,
Tamilians are following Thiruvalluvar Year. This year is 2030. My questions are
1. is the year we are following correct ?
2. We know that Ovaiyaar mentioned about Thirukkural. If it is true then what was Ovaiyar period?

Dear friend,
There is a great deal of controversy about valluvar's birth period. His period is perhaps sometime between 2 B.C. to 600 AD!!!
Apparently there were two Auvaiyars!!!
Sorry for being not able to provide more information. There is a page on the net which talks about this in detail. Perhaps you know about it.

Could anyone please give me information about "valluvar" - Or if there is a site - could they note it down for me?
I am writing a Seminar paper on Narayan's "Painter of Signs" and the name "valluvar" is mentioned as one of the ancient masters - I have no idea who he is - so could someone please help me out? Thanks!

You said "I have no idea who he is...." which is indeed surprising to me! Valluvar (or Thiruvalluvar) wrote his famous work Thirukkural sometime during 2nd AD (the most agreeable period). The period 31 B.C. is more a sort of generally agreed upon dating by scholars of Tamil Cangam, Madurai, India. Of course there is NO historical basis for this conclusion.
Just use any search engine (google or yahoo) and feed in Thiruvalluvar or Tiruvalluvar, you will get lot of links.
I am currently working on an interesting topic "Mathematical Miracle in Kural" parts of which will soon appear in one of the Tamil sites by Jan 2001.
