  I hope i am not belabouring the point, but i think it merits some of my time (since i have such time at my disposal presently) and effort to irreverently trash CNNs image again. Why? Because too often that organization, owing to its streamlined image and professional venner, is given far more credibility than it respectfully deserves.
  Some more examples of the poor quality of CNNs journalistic integrity:
  During the US's invasion of Panama under the administration of George Bush Sr., CNN reported 11 civilian deaths total as a result of the military operation. 11 deaths!... compare this with the statistics gathered by the UN's fact finding commission and the statements of international human rights groups, which puts the number between 3,500 and 4,000.... thats quite a discrepency... CNN has never retracted its figures, and apparently considers the several thousand other deaths insignificant, or unworthy of comment.
  Also, if you watch CNN regularly, you may be aware of one their Latin American correspondents, a certain Harris Whitbeck. He covers largely their Central American news. I dont know if you know who this man is, or what sordid history he represents, but you can look up the issues for yourself if you have the time or desire, should my account here seem too incredible. Harris Whitbeck was a young evangelical US military officer turned businessman who was a member of the administration of the dictatorial Guatemalan president Efrain Rios Montt (SOA graduate and evangelical, finding both military training, funding and "god" here in the US). Rios Montt is most well known for his scorched-earth campaigns (funded by the then existing Regan-Bush administration) in Guatemalas highlands which brutally targetted Guatemalas Mayan indigenous population, slaughtered thousands of people en masse, created seveeral thousand orphans and refugees, and had some crazy idea that Guatemala could be won for god and the US (as opposed to "satanic communists", the blanket term used for rebels, human rights advocates, Mayan self-help groups, and liberal missionaries who spoke out about the tragedy in Guatemala) by the year 2000. Mr. Whitbeck was in charge of the administrations campaign known as "Frijoles o Fusiles", or "Beans or Rifles"... the idea of this campaign may be summed up as follows: "if you do what we (the military) says, we'll feed you (albeit poorly), if not, your dead."
  Now this man works as a correspondent for CNN... i dont know if thats a step up or down. But i do think it compromises the integrity of that agency that it should contract a man who was part of a dictatorial death machine whose impact is still reverberating throughout Guatemala today. Expecting reliable news from him would be the equivalent of expecting Pat Robertson to provide one with a reliable understanding of Hinduism.
  Okay Krishnan, i apologize for belabouring the point, but i felt an almost urgent need to point out these truths about CNN, as i do not believe that they are reliable sources for any information other than a representation of the dominant political ideology of American investment bankers. I know such a critique is out of place in this thread, and for that i apologize. You may confirm any of the above statements by way of your own research. But i thought it best that you consider the source when and if refering to that agency as a reliable provider of accurate information.... take good care my friend.

  Ah yes CNN that great organ of the American way (read 'white-anglosaxon-protestant-male-conservative republican....'). Mr. Krishnan, did you know that the CNN news team was the only one which was the 'Official News Team' for the Gulf War because the American government was confident that it would provide 'reliable' (pro-American)coverage of the war. In fact one could say that the Gulf War was 'produced and directed' by the CNN. It was almost like watching a western where 'good' American men in white hats fight 'bad' red-indians (a genre of films which are still screened and celebrated by another part of Ted Turners media empire TNT). CNN is one of the most unreliable of media sources and I would rather throw anything from them into the garbage than bother to add the proverbial salt...there's not enough salt in the world.
