South indian beliefs, traditions.

What are the true meanings of the things South Indians do. For example, why they move clockwise when performing anything in front of dieties?, the reason for the thiruneer to be placed on the forehead, the pottu for south indian women, the flame we use in all prayers, the reason for married women to put on the metti and many more. What is the true meaning of all these. I am dying to know the answers.

Skanthavelu Nadarajah,
"Did you see my post from this morning? If so, what do you think of it??"
What, the one about 'za?'
Norman Jansz argues that 'za' should be added for the sake of the Muslim community. I would wonder how the Muslims have fared all this time without having a 'za' in Tamil. However, if the Muslims want to add any letter they want to Sinhala to help them communicate, nobody should stand in their way. I just don't know if it can be standardized, though.
I don't agree with making 'za' standardized into Sinhala for 2 related reasons: 1) Sinhala already has 54 letters in the alphabet and is difficult enough 2) the 'sa' sound has been an adequate substitution given that Sinhala words never had a 'za' sound to begin with- 'za' would be mostly useless (except perhaps for the Muslims, who have not clamored for this letter to my knowledge).
Let's drop this topic, since Sinhala language has nothing to do with the topic of this thread.

>>Who was it that wrote the poem which begins as "yaadhum oorE yaavarum kELir"? Can someone provide me the full poem? mihavum nanRi!<<<
SN,
Tamil poet of the Pre-Christinan Sangham era Kaniyan Poongundranarsang “Yaathum Oore, Yaavarum Kelir.
Any place is a city indeed, and all are kindred;
Good and evil do not proceed from others.
Suffering and soothing are to these similar.
Even death is not new.
We would neither feel the thrill of
Calling life pleasant; nor would we out of spite
Call it unpleasant.
Just as, when with lightning
The sky pours cool drops, uncontrolled,
Hurtling on rock, resounding, a raft is carried away In the course of (a) great river of plenty,
In the course of Order is (our) dear soul carried;
Since we have benn enlightened by this vision of the wise,
We would not be amazed by the great in their glory, and
We would even less despise the petty.

the famous KaNiyan Puungunran's poem - puRam 192.
PuRa^nAnURu 192
All lands home, all men kin.
Evil and good are not from others,
nor are pain and its abating.
Death is nothing new.
We do not rejoice thinking life sweet,
and if pain comes,
even less do we find it a cause for grief.
Through the eyes of those who see deeply
we have come to know that life takes its hard course
as if it were a raft in the waters of a mighty river,
ever roaring and beating on rocks
after cold rain pours from flashing skies,
and so we do not wonder at the great
and still less do we despise the small.

Hindi gave Tamilians a civilization and livelihood plus jobs.
whereas Hinduism gave Tamilians a low , backward and gift of untouchability. In other words Dravidians were given dalitism in acceptance of Hinduism.
So which is better Hindi or Hinduism for Dravidians. Reply to me honetly.

In Singapore the conniving Tamils do not have caste status (some do secretly) but they have occupational status. What do they do when they finish their bloody college studies and find out they are not good enough to go to university or not good enough to become lawyers and economists what do they do? Rush to become to become a teacher that’s what. And then they belittle any student who is struggling. These idiots can’t even spot talent. I had one of these idiots come to teach my brother at home. His disposition and raising of voice made my brother look hopeless. His brother then took over. Days before the exam he was lecturing my brother to go to ITE. So we decided to hire a humble Malay boy to do the job. My brother got A2 in almost all his subjects and went to poly for a year before deciding to do “A” levels to become a Accountant. According to the idiot teacher and his engineering brother he was not good enough days for poly just days before the exam.
Even now some Tamil bas tards don’t talk to me until they realise I am a graduate. Even then they have questions like how I made it to university and so on as if only certain families should be able to go to universities. I still wonder how many talented students lives my brother’s teacher is destroying in school. It is not strange that it is non-Indian teachers who always win awards for making a difference in students’ lives. Indians rush to a noble job with less than noble intent. This idiot was definitely one of them. Another characteristic of Singapore Indians can be found in this idiot. That is if you are not a fair North Indian Brahmin or whatever you can always MARRY UP by hitching a Chinese girl, which is what this idiot has done.
This is the mentality and hypocrisy of Indians in Singapore.
