hi friends
can any one tell me the origin of sourashtra and how they came to tamil nadu.
why there is no sourashtra calender
why they adopted the tamil culture
why they adopted the tamil festival
how they lost their identity and when

  To my knlowdge There is research about sou`s by one of the professer in Madurai and he conculded in two ways with solid proof.
  1. Basically sou`s are from Gujrat and They are masters in weaving. After the Naiaker King came to know about them and he brought them to madurai as a Royal weavers and they do only for the Royal families.
  
  2.Sou`s are living in Gujurat and they are basically Brahmins and even though they worship lold VISHNU BUT they are very cordial with the Saiva`s. Most of the people at that time are very rich and wealthy. so during the Mogul`s period due to their torcher they started migrated to south via Andhra and Karnataka and settled in Tamilnadu. That is why the language now is a mixture of Telugu and kannada.
  Also the family names procedure are started only during they live in Andhrapradesh.

  Sou's are from Gurajat this is right, have you seen the map of sourashtra, if not see the map during the time of independence, you will come to know where exactly sourastra was. and what happend to it now. Check for Map of India during 1947 to 1951 you will find the answer.
