Who are these Karthar Pillai? Did they migrate to India? If so, from where? Are they native of Lemuria Continent?
Please give e-mail or address of Karthar Sangam, if any one has. I heard there are in USA, Tamil Nadu, Bombay, Malayesia, Singapore etc.

Vassan:
I often have this discussion with my sister who lives back in India about the same issue. She detests any discussion on caste. But.... my logic is, in the history of the castes lies the history of India. So we need to learn about the history of the castes to learn our country's history if nothing else.

Dear Vasan,
Request you confirm that info on St.Appar and what is kuRukkaiyar kudi, my friend. As punnahai says, there is nothing wrong in knowing the history, if viewed only from that aspect.

I do agree with Punnahai's statement.Infact this is the only statement or punnahai, which is somewhat reasonable and with some maturity!

I chanced on this info on AR Rahman:
"A. R. Rahman or Allah Rakha Rahman was born actually A. S. Dileep Kumar on the 6th of January in the year 1967, in Madras (now Chennai), to a musically affluent Tamil Mudaliar family. The second of four children he had three sisters Kanchana, Bala (now Talat) and Israth, Kanchana being elder and the other two younger. His father R.K. Sekhar was a composer, arranger and conductor in Malayalam movies and had worked under the likes of Salil Chowdhary and Devarajan. His mother was Kasthuri (now Kareema Begum). "

I want to know the meaning of "Siva Tonda thooia vellala mudaliar". and how can they be compared to a goundar. This is because my brother is getting married to a goundar girl. I would appreciate your response.
Thank you.

karaikAtu vellalar, i believe this is the same as kArkAthar. but i'm not sure if this is a division of tondamandalam or pandya vellalars.
i read somewhere that the vellalas that moved to AP became the velamars there, who call themselves nayudus. but isnt that a kammavaru community?
