I wonder whose side the Tamil-speaking Muslims in TN and elsewhere are taking- the Tamils or Muslims.

Complete nonsense!
One is a Tamil and may follow any religion. No more Divisions amoung Ceylon Tamils! or Sri Lankans -or even all Human Beings!!
Firstly Tamils are older than Hinduism, we are descendants of the ancient dravidians.
Secondly Sri Lankan Muslims have tamil ancestry, so why the division? I am a christian by religion and a Tamil by ethnicity, the same equally applies to Tamils who are Hindu & muslim.
With the greatest respect to India, Sri Lanka (Ceylon) does not need any more divisions like India & Pakistan. The country is too small.
Muslim Tamils have more in common culturally and ethically with their Hindu & Christian fellow Tamils -Just like in Tamil Nadu or Kerala.

Although I concur with you, Sri Lankan Muslims do not believe that they are of Tamil origin. They believe they are of either Arabic or Malay origin and they are Tamil speaking Srilankan Muslims who are different Tamils.
As far as Sri Lankan Tamils are concerned, Tamil is their ethnic origin, language, and culture. Religion is excluded. However, Tamil Nadu Muslims believe that they are of Tamil origin. Thank Goodness!
As soon as LTTE gets power, I believe Sri Lankan Muslims will change their view. Tamils have a reputation to change their allegiance to whatever alien race, the moment they get an opportunity. Unless Tamils obtain power, this will be the history of Tamils.

""Tamil Nadu Muslims believe that they are of Tamil origin. Thank Goodness! ""
PA, In TN there were three major divisions among the Tamil speaking Muslims,
1.Muslims of more arabic origin-They consider them to be more close to an Arab than to an Tamil,
These people are fair looking and mostly they live in the coastal areas.
I will compare their idea of tamilness to a higher caste Hindu Tamil.
2.Muslims of Tamil origin, their customs were similar to a Tamil Hindu, they accept they were converted people (but not converted during the Moghul Rule but long before that, may be by the sufi saints and arabic traders who travelled extensively in TN) and most people had forgotten their original castes.
3.These were recently converted people,(there is no single reason why they convert-
Current position in society(Low Caste)
Financial benefits
Love Marriage
Attraction towards Islam.were some of the reasons
Now a days marriage between these 3 groups were common, but mostly the first group still prefer their own fair skin :)

There r lot of tamils but they not hindus. As somesaid above Tamil muslims don't like to say themselves as "Tamil" . This may be they prefer to describe themselves indicating their relion rather than language.

Bad News.

Do the Arab Muslims (1st group) discriminate Tamil Muslims (2 nd and 3 rd groups)? Does the State Government give any preference to the latter?
Aren’t the last 2 groups accounts for 70 percent of the Muslim population in Tamil Nadu?

It is true only in Sri Lanka primarily due to political reason. I have met Tamil Nadu Muslims who identify as Tamils.
In Sri Lanka, Tamil means both ethnicity and language. Leading Sinhalese politicians who studied in Jaffna in mid 20 th century, were excellent Tamil speakers. They were never identified as Tamils. Had they been in Tamil Nadu, they would have been referred to as Tamilians.

"Bad News,"
""Do the Arab Muslims (1st group) discriminate Tamil Muslims (2 nd and 3 rd groups)?""
No its not Bad news,
And the first group were not arab muslims, they too were Tamil , They speak Tamil,
but their Tamil is not so pure as the other two groups and as I said they too now were marrying people of other groups.
I believe even though we were divided over religious lines, Tamil is still strong enough to unite us.
Purdahs and Arabization is a recent phenomenon here in TN, may be active for the last 20 years or so,
I consider that to be similar to westernization of our societys.

u just heart about stories,
I have have been with them. I have lot of friends.
As said above that is not polical reason.
They gave primarily concerned aboout relion but proud to speak Tamizh.
So it is wrong to say that TN muslims only tamils, Tamil speaking muslims from everywhere r tamils by language.
Highlighting one or two is not good example.

I am not saying this, and No Tamil would like to say this, I know a little on silankan Tamil muslims, still some of my relatives were doing business in columbu.
If you r a muslim, pl., you can contribute your views on your linguistic Identity, how well you people are close to the language you speak.
I personally feel we all should pray to God in the language we speak ie our mother tongue, or else just throw away that language?

people first of all some corrections i want to make
Ceylon = ilangai referred by Europeans after uniting the Jaffna Kingdom and the Kandi and the Singhalese Kingdom.
Sri Lanka : Sri = Thiru, Lanka = Eezham
so Sri Lanka means ThiruVeezham but instead of saying that they say that in Singhalam as Sri Lanka. Don't u dare to call Thamizhans as Sri Lanka:@. Second of all There is no Hinduism:@ Thamizhans are Sivaniyar or Maaliyar and we aren't Hindu or something we belong to the community of Thamizh anyway second of all Muslims Thamizh are Thamizhans yet some want to think they aren't but what we should do instead of is inputting the nationalism of Thamizh in Temples, Mosk, Church. No matter what it is:@ This can be applied but the world could also say it's against the Human Rights in a way but if there is a Thamizh Country then this should be applied but as far as i know Eezham can't do this unless the Muslims by religion Thamizh realize it and name their childrens on Thamizh same with Thamizh who are sivaniyars and don't name their childrens on Thamizh and those of whom follow Christianity. We aren't Europeans nor NONTHAMIZH:@ We are Thamizh so behave like one. Don't act like a cow when you are a Tiger because that only spoil who u are. Thamizh who are by religions are different are Thamizh no matter what. That's all to say. Nantri Vannakam ___/\___

Lankan Muslims spurn TN Muslims’ call to merge with Tamils (Page 1)
COLOMBO DIARY | PK Balachanddran
Colombo, September 5
Sri Lankan Muslims have, with one voice, rejected a recent suggestion by a Muslim political leader from Tamil Nadu, that they should consider themselves part of the Tamil community of Sri Lanka because their mother tongue is Tamil.
Speaking at a meeting to condole the death of Ellankai Nainar in Colombo late last month, the chief of the Tamil Manila Muslim League (TMML), Amir-ul-Millat, S Sheik Dawood, said that the two most critical identification marks of an ethno-political community were (a) the language it spoke and (b) the country to which it belonged.
