Hello Vijay,
Pleased to meet you and i hope you are doing well.
As far as i know, we have absolutely NO hard evidence to locate the emergence of Tamil culture at 5000 years in the past.
I think most people wish to romanticize and mystify the culture, so they need to concoct pseudo-histories, such as making Indus Valley Civ. into a Tamil culture, in order to provide a mythic justification for the culture. But that is blind patriotism, not scientific scrutiny.

The Sangam literature, is estimated to be about 2000 years old. The Tamil culture should be much older than 2000 years.
One of Chera kings by name Udayan Cheralathan is said to have provoided hospitality to the armies that took part in Mahabaratha war. There is a thread on this in Tamil literary section in this forum initiated by me. You can get the exact references from learned people (unlike me) in that thread. If Mahabaratha war is 3000 years old, then Tamil culture is 3000 years old. If Mahabaratha is 5000 years old, as claimed by the Aryanist Hindutvadis, then Tamil culutre is 5000 years old.
Some Indologists argue that civilizations of Harappa and Mohenjadaro are Dravidian. If you want to equate Dravidian with proto-Tamil, which might be a very tenuous proposition, then proto-Tamil civilization is as old as Harappan or Mohenjodaran civilization.
There is one Dr.Loganathan, a linguist and a Tamil scholar, from Malaysia who finds similarities between archaic Tamil and Sumerian language. You can find his arguments in a Tamil literary forum called Agathiar.
Is Kumaric kandam a figment of imagination of Tamil chauvnists or is there any truth to that claim? It is possible that Srilanka is a remnant of the submerged Kumaric kandam. But..

One thing I forgot to mention. In the popular consciousness passed on by folklore, there has never been any claim by Tamils to have migrated from North. IVC might be a Dravidian civilizaton, but Tamils in the past have never claimed any connection. So, IVC civilization may not be a Tamil civilization, after all.
There is said to have been a king by name Kadalul mAinda Ilam Peru Vazhudi, who ruled the part of the now lost Kumari Kandam. Well, he could have just died in the sea on a ship during a cyclone.
We may not have hard historical facts to prove that Tamil culture is 5000 years old. But a society that could write such profound pieces of literature does not come about from nowhwere by magic.
Tamil literature did not have an oral tradition, like the Samskrutavaadi Aryanist culture. When Aryanist claim Vedas are eternal, we do not see too many learned people question the claim. Neither would they question as to why such culture should be passed on by oral tradition? Were they not intelligent enought to develop a writing system? And Vedas get written down, with all the manufactured religio philosophical profundities in the early part of the CE.

I happen to watch 'Vanakkam Thamizhagam' on 29th October 2002 in Sun TV. The VIP on interview was 'Sathoor Sekaran' who has several Phd.s after his name; knows all the 14 official languages of India and 17 other world languages to speak, read and write. He has presented papers in many seminars and conferences in Germany and UK.
He claims one can learn Malayalam, Telegu and Kannadam in 2 to 3 hours time each one completely to speak. The reason : He has 3 to 4 formulas in which Tamil root-words can be seen converted into these languages. You know these formulas - you understand the whole language.
His second claim : Every language has thousands of words. Not all are root-words. Many are 'karanap peyar's. In the whole world only only some thousand words seem to be root-words. And all these root words originated from Tamil and got converted by 19(I am not sure about this number) different formulas. If you reconvert these words by reverse process you will find all these words in the old Tamil literatures with the same meaning.
Point 3: Words have changed by these formulas. However, the Grammer 95% not changed between those languages and Tamil as originally prescribed.
Point 4: No language in the world, except Tamil, invented one single root word in all these human history. Astonishing! He has proved this claim before linguistic professors in Germany and UK.
Does anybody has additional information?

Sounds like a nut case; he's probably related to any one of those bogus holy men India used to export to the West during the sixties, seventies and eighties.
