Today we hear over Radio or read from News Papers of "Tamil" Music Festivals, the programes are said to be "Karnatic" Music, and what is actually sung is "Telugu" Keerthanas !!!

Will the exponents of Tamil Music and other's versed on this subject explain as to why this situation remains so in Tamil Nadu and elsewhere, for the benefit of all those interested in knowing same.

What happend to Sir Annamalai Chettiar's Thamil Issai Iyyakkam.

  Thanks to our "common-sense" politicians, no one is interested in anything to do with tamil devotion. We have so many rationalists clamouring for conducting archanai in tamil, beating Vinayakars with chappals and putting up periyar book stalls in front of temples. The earlier rulers provided support for recitation of tamil devotional songs and built 100 pillared halls specially for this purpose. But nowadays we have a special division called "religous endowment board" whose main aim is to swindle as much land and money as possible from the temples.
  
  As for the karnatic musicians singing in Telugu, it is a carry over from the Vijayanagara empire who spoke telugu. The pann system of tamil is older than carnatic music but it is not considered to "in style" by the musicians.
  
  There is an academy in Paris corner for tamil isai where they impart training in tamil music. They also have a web site, I don't have the URL right now. They conduct special programs during December.
