The appointment of India's first "dalit'' (low caste) archbishop evoked mixed reactions among church people in the southern state of Andhra Predesh. While some have criticized the Vatican for ignoring "ground realities'' in transferring Bishop Marampudi Joji of Vijayawada to Hyderabad, others said his promotion as the state's metropolitan archbishop will bring "new life'' to the 1-million-strong Andhra church. Expressing shock over the appointment, outgoing Archbishop Samineni Arulappa of Hyderabad said, "Rome is being taken for a ride. Rome does not know the ground realities,'' reported UCA News, an Asian church news agency based in Thailand



(Please note: Out of 156 Catholic bishops in India, 150 bishops belong to the upper caste community. Only 6 bishops belong to dalit community. Out of 12,500 Catholic priests, only 600 are from dalit community. 75% members of the Indian Christian community are from dalit community . 25% of the Upper caste Christians (clergy, religious and laity) have complete control over the dalit or untouchable Christians )

if lot of dalits think that their caste probs will be solved by embracing christianity but what to for the above said......

  Dr.Lilji:The converts were 99.9 percent uneducated . The British wanted the loyalty of indians and sent missionaries at Govt.expense to India. It is true that christians were loyal to the british and worked against independence movements but they were all backward and did not make much difference. They have remained backward like you.No Nehru or Gandhi among them.Read Disraeli's speeches in House of Commons in 1858,59 1nd 60. Even he was dissapponted at the conversions of idiots.Now if you still think that you can behave like Dorai's, it will be a mistake. These are statistics from Rev Dr. Dinakaran and Tamil Ninja Killi. 18-20% are moslems,3% sikhs, 7-10% christians and about 3% others like jains.Christians were not nuetral but 100% against independence.   Five in six people from the total population of india practice hinduism. hindus are the lowest of all. stop the pride thats the only way out of it. and the most pride is in brahmins i realized. why hindus even now can't take care of themselves. don't try to get sympathy out of others and don't expect others to take care of india. but, if others willing to help with good intention don't reject it either with jelousy. i think india would be much better if the whole majority of indians in india are christians. then only india will see the light.

  This story is similar to the several nuns who were raped about 6-7 years ago in Maharashtra and some were killed. All the people blamed brahmins till the local christians, members of the congregation confessed.
