Yeah neogis are one of the varities of telugu brahmins. Their occupation was to hold the head position of gram panchayat, like nattamai in tamil nadu. I have a girl friend in this caste.

It is the caste name of a Scholar who convinced a king and took 6000 varahas instead of the announced 1000 varahas

Dear friends,
I am a 6000(aRUVELA NIYOGI)niyogi. The Telugu speaking brahmins from AP are broadly divided into 3 categories:
(A)Niyogis-Has about 10 different subsects of which 6000 Niyogis form the majority. The Niyogis were mainly administrators, diwans, karnams, large-land holding agriculturulists etc. They invariably did not perform poojas in temples.
(b)Vaideekis- Many subsects. Priestly vocations and agriculture
(C)Vaishnavas, Telugu Iyengars, Madhvas etc.
The TN niyogis are supposed to have sttled in different parts of TN around 300 yrs ago after migrating from present day AP (COASTAL AREAS) after the fall of the Vijayanagar empire. They settled in Madurai, Trichy. Tirunelveli and Tanjore dts mailny. A substantial number settled in Southern Karnataka as well. Please keep forum active. Further details at a website www.vepachedu.org or com, I am not sure.

Dear Mr. Karthik
Thanks for the information about the migration of Telugu Brahmins from AP to TN. BTW Are you an AP brahmin or TN Brahmin? Do TN Telugu Brahmins retain their Telugu identity or became Tamilians?
You gave many places where telugu brahmins are found but no mention of Chennai!!??

I am interested in knowing a few names of 6000 N Brahmins of Andhra origin who migratted to Tamil Nadu, may be 100/200 yrs ago and presently know that they are Telugus, but not sure about the original family name.
