I thinnk this is a balanced, sober opinion of an educated, reasonable Tamilian, thatswhy I am posting it here. I believe the author of this post actually refelecting the feelings majority of Tamil people. Please answer his questions or state your opinion in a decent manner.
Do Brahmins hate Tamil and Tamils?
Before answering this question let us ask two counter questions.
Q1: Do non-brahmins hate Tamil & Tamils?
Yes, absolutely yes. I can name 1000 persons in each subcaste irrespective of where that persons live. You can bring in leaders of various political parties also in to this category.
Why should a tamil dislike tamil & tamils?
Ignorence is one answer for both. Self interest is another. Ignorence we can forgive. But self interest we should not.
Why should Tamils hate tamil? Those who think that the Hindi or English would help them better for their future (a very wrong notion. These guys never learn anything better. Is a person who can not learn even his mother tongue is going
to learn other languages and science & tech better? A poor possiblity!).
Why should tamils hate tamils? For this question we should know who are all tamils?
We, who belong to every sub caste are tamils. Then we hate people of other castes. Naturally they are also tamils. Thus we end up in hating other tamils.
Periyar became very famous after his sathya graham at Vaikkam in Kerala. Here a community known as Eelavar was treated untouchable and the Brahmins did not permit them to walk in particular streets and take water from some wells. Periyar was known since then as Vaikkam Veerar. Actually only after this incident,
Justice party requested Periyar to head thheir party. Untill then Periyar was in Congress party. AT the time when Periyar was elcted to be the president of the JUstice Party, Periyar was in Jail.
Periyar alater writes: "When I was walking on the procession in support of Eelavars at Vaikkam along with many men and women, who did come infront of us naked and scared away the women? Who threw mud and other things against us?
Are those Brahmin? No. It is our non-Brahmins. Tell me how many non-Brahmins
are ready to share food, cloth and bed with SCs and STs? When the non-Brahmins are discriminating among themselves why blame the Brahmins?"
I do not have to prove how far Periyar is correct as every non-Brahmin who reads and writes here against Brahmins including TA would know. It is our own Tamils hate each other and kill each other.
Many asks in this netgroup why LTTE killed tamils?
Is it because LTTE that we killed each other at Mandaikkadu? LTTE never even existed in those days. How many caste based killings in tamilnadu has taken place so far and why? I will rather explain about LTTE later. Let us answer
the question why we, the tamils in Tamilnadu killed/kill each other?
Was/Is it due to Brahmins? The answer is No and Yes. No, because they do not take or give the weapon and killed us and told us to kill directly. Yes, because they are the ones who brought the caste culture in to Tamils.
Didn't we have caste culture earlier? What about Thirukkural"Pirappokkum" and Avvai's "Sathi irantoliya". I will explain elaborately if some one asks for it. In short, valluvan does not speak about sathi. There is no ancient tamil
word Sathi. No tamil word is there to ascribe sathi. Sathi is the tamil version of sanskrit "Jathi". If you say Sathi in tamil it means "achieve". That word also a tamilized sanskrit word. There were many old women poets who were calledAvvai (meaning grand Ma both in Tamil and Telugu). Therefore this Avvai was
a later origin by the time the caste got rooted into tamils' culture.
Are there not any caste any where in the world? Yes, there are. Some time they are known as races. For example, the white cacasians have differrent sub sects known as Romans, Spanish, British, Irish, German, French, etc.
Although largely they all belong to one race cacasian, they belong to different sub sects.
Had they fought among themselves? You know the answer.
So what Brahmins did to Tamils is a cruel act? No, it is not. They tried their best to survive. We, the tamils who were doing different jobs for their living as said by Valluvam became an easy pray to the Brahmins. The divisons among
ourselves, the Brahmins and later the British made use of it for their own survival.
That is natural.
Why shouldn't we join together atleast now? Are the Brahmins preventing us?
No. It is our own people plus politicians. Now, it has reached a point that we can never set it right. The maximum damage was done by the British and not by BRAHMINS.
During the last days this what Periyar wrote: " Let us forget about independent Dravida Nadu. If we can stop the proliferation caste and caste mediated fighting, then that would be the greatest thing that the DK would have ever
achieved."
Now, tell me, how many non-Brahmins in this net group is willing to set aside their caste and indetify himself as a tamil?
Then we cantalk about Brahmin!
We do not have the right to talk and criticize the Brahmins as a whole.
Now, let me tell you why the British but not the Brahmins did the worst damage to the tamils?
It is during the British rule, caste based reservation of jobs have been brought in. British understood our weekness and the way the
Brahmins succeeded aginst us. To begin with, the Brahmins are not the best warriors, although a handfull of them were. Then how come they got the power of rulling and survived? That is the simplest "divide and rule". British also learned
the caste based divisions among Tamils and wanted to make use of it by cementing the divSions for ever. They used not ordinary cement but reinforced concrete.
That is the creation of law to reserve jobs based on the caste. Every tamil fell for it. All later Dravidian parties fell in it and never came out of it.
I have talked many political leaders. They can not do it. That is why I am writing here.
The youngsters should come out of this worst caste based reservation and destroy the caste altogether.
You may say that you know that I am a Brahmin and trying to mislead you. One day we will meet and then you will know who I am and what my vision and mission are.
Let us think about caste based reservation system. Don't they give more opportunity
to non-Brahmins as opposed to Brahmins in education and jobs? Yes it is.
But what percentage pople are Brahmins? 2-5%?
What percentage of jobs these
Brahmin can take away from Tamils? Only in those job positions where personal preference can be shown, the Brahmins who are already holding top positions would influence the new appointments.
How many top positions are still held by Brahmins? Very few, I guess. If not, our Dravidian leaders betrayed us the worst or we
failed to utilize the reservation system for nearly 100 years. In either case there
is no point in taking this reservastion further.
Think about in the last 50 years, or since we started naming the first rank students, how many times a Brahmin became the top rank holder. Hardly a few, I guess.
Through out my study days from elementary school up to Univeristy I always ranked first at least in my institution if not in the whole state.
No Brahmin was able to outscore me although they had better facility and family supprt than myself. Therefore I have the confidence that the Brahmins can not be a challenge for us in intellectual capacity.
I tell you one incident that happened in my village when I was a college student.
There was something that created problem between non-Brahmins and SCs off my village. As I always had political influence and also I studied well I was one among those who have been allowed to speak in taking decisions about our village. I was the only one to support SC. Later, I met some my school class-mates who belong to SC caste and told them that they shoould take a decision about what they wanted, either social respect or a reservation. If they wanted
reservation then, I told them, they are never going to get social respect. Now, it is not
individuals, but the goverment that takes care of branding people by caste name.
It goes in to each individual's record and is staying for ever. Because poeple of different caste believe that they may get benefit by reservation, they do not want it to be destroyed. If the present youth has confidence and know that as long as caste syste survives, tamils can not improve, please come forward
and join with me to demand the goverment to destroy the caste system.
Q2: Do Brahmins hate Tami and Tamils? Yes and No. It is the sdame answer that we get about non-Brahmins. That is among Brahmins there are poeple who think they are also tamils and their tongue is also tamil. Even those who think
they are non-tamils still love tamil and tamils for various reasons. U. Ve.Saminatha Iyyer, Bharathi, Pandidt Surya Narayana Sasthri, we can name many. We can not call the caste Brahmin as Tamil haters? Just because we have people
like Mooppanar, Chidamparam, Ramamurthi, can we say allmooppanars, chettiyars, pillais, Naidus, vanniyars ..... all tamil haters? We never say that way. We then name individuals as the traitors. When came to Hindu. Ram, S. Swamy,
Cho why should we jump to the word Brahmin? Can the brahmins in this net group agree that these individuals referred above are anti tamils? Yes, many will agree, I guess.
Therefore let us stop blaming a particular caste. Let us make use of every
tamil including well wishing Brahmins and destroy the caste-system and save the TAMIL, EELAAM TAMILS and TAMILNADU TAMILS.
