There is a claim that nadars[shenan vellalas]are directly connected to the ruling elite of ancient south indian kingdoms

Nadars do not use vellala tag anywhere, anytime.
Though Nadars and Gramanis may not be the same community, both can call themselves brother in laws. In Tamil Nadu Nadars and Gramanis are almost considered the same caste. But Srilankan gramanis have lost touch with nadars and vice versa after the fall of Pandyan kingdom.
I guess even tamil Gramanis and sinhala gramanis do not have connections anymore.
