Is Ganesha son of the soil?

A few years back Tamil Nadu chief minister M. Karunanidhi, has raised a piquant question: Is Lord Ganesha a native of T.N. or not? According to him, the elephant-headed god's origins are not Tamil.
I am reproducing what he said at that time, from archieves of "Times of India"
Mr Karunanidhi says that it was way back in 630 A.D. that a lieutenant of the Pallava king, Narsimhavarman, defeated the Pulikesi king at Vathapi, the capital city of the
Chalukyas (now called Badami in Bijapur district in Karnataka). While returning home, he "brought" back a statue of Ganesh. it was for this reason that even today, during music programmes, songs in praise of `Vathapi Ganapathi' are sung.
Mr Karunanidhi argues that this proves that Ganesh was a "native" of Vathapi and did not belong to Tamil Nadu.
I would like to have forumhubbers views on it.
Can Dr.Jaybee or Chandra could clarify this? Thanks

All, or at least most of, our concepts are symbolic. Let us concentrate on what Ganapathi/Jnanapathi/Janapathi symbolise.

It is not correct that Ganapathi was brought to Tamilnadu by the Army chief of Narasimapallavan. Thirunaavukkarsu Naayanar was harrassed by Mahendravarman, the father of Narasimmavarman. He made references about Ganapathi in his hymns. This was much earlier to the conquest of Vathapi. It was only Kalki who invented the story that Ganapathi was brought by Paranjothi from vatabi

Karunanidhi and the rest of the Dravidian clan have no right speak of anything that is spiritual in nature. And what more, we have people like Manivannan adding to mess. The whole story goes thus....there are 7 main chakras in our energy bodies the roots of which run up the spine. The active Kundalini shakti flows through the spine first and then the width of the passage increases when the practioner becomes more spiritually advanced (i.e. when he/she is less pre-occupied with language issues and other pettiness). The first chakra, the root chakra is the Muladhara chakra governed by Ganesha. A closed Muladhara chakra apart from being an obstacle to the flow of Kundalini, results in the individual not being 'grounded' enough in life and is plagued with insecurity such as Dravidians in this forum. Moreoever, this chakra has a say in anything to do with earth and mundane life such as prosperity etc. Therefore, you have Ganesha made out of earth during the Ganesha festivals. Embodied insular pettiness like Karunanidhi, Anna and Periyar will never ever get close to comprehending the subtleties behind the forms of Hindu Gods. Other forumers, DO NOT bring in your Tamil sectarian pettiness into matters that have to do with the overall fabric of existence.

Lord Ganesh has more affinity towards tamil than his brother Muruga, how?
1. He was the one who introduced tamil scripts to agathiyar. It is mentioned in the song of Arunagiri naathars thirupugaz, 'Kaithala niraikani..'..Then just imagine his involvement with Tamil Naadu.
2. He was come into the picture, as our granny Auvai, sang 'Vinaayakar Agaval', our Ganesh, the next minute trasports her to Kailas. This was during the period of Sundhara murthy naayanaar.
3. He comes into picture, in early life of Auvaiyaar, when she was young, it was our Ganesh who trasformed her to a Granny. Remember, Auvai, was also there during the period of Adhiyamaan.

Contd...
4. Auvai, helped thiruvalluvar to get his immortal Thirukural, to be recognized. So vinayaka was there even during sangam period as Auvai was there..
5. The mere fact that the Chariot of Grear Lord Shiva was in problem the town called 'Acharupaakkam' came into existence, near Chennai and Tindeevanam.
To understand about Paranjothi's,the commander in chief of Narasimha Varman, involvement to get Ganapathi from Vaatapi ( Badami ) to Thiruchenkataankudi, could b understood, well when you read 'Sivagaamiyin Sabhadam'.
Popular poeple, does not keep quite whe they don't know certain things. They speak something rubbish and confuse people.
