Hello all!
I was wondering if anyone out there can give me information regarding the surname 'Pillay.' Which state in India is the original home to the Pillay's.
Is there any cultural/historical association with Vellala's whose last name are 'Pillai.'
Any and all information about Pillay's and their history will be appreciated. I apologize if I chose the wrong forum to post this on.

Mr P.K. Pillai appears to be an "ardent scholar" on the topic caste and the social system that is manifest in India.
Those of us who live outside of continent and more particularly in South Africa abhor racism of whatever kind. This extends to caste discrimination - when persons are judged not by their talent or ability but by their background and origin.
Yes, I agree that discrimination does exist in most societies - the challenge that confronts us the human race is to rise above it.
The United Nations Declaration on Human Rights provides the framework for the improvement of the lives of all people's of the world.
Can you Mr Pillai rise to the chalenge?
With warm greetings and best wishes.

India can overcome this CASTE problem.
we already see lot of FC marry OC on account of love, same place job etc.
i am proud to say in ou family there are
saiva pillai +SC
saiva pillai +nadar -coverted to christianity
saiva pillai +moopanar -girl converted from christianity to hinduism
saiva pillai +nayar
happened.
I am sorry I COULD ALSO DO LIKE THE ABOVE,
but one can not wish anyting like that, marriage is the WISH OF GOD.
i can assure you, TODAY'S INDIA IS MORE CONCENTRATING ON STUDIES, SUCCESS, FAME, MONEY THAN CASTE OR RELIGION
I SAW MANY OF MY FAMILY BRAHMIN FREINDS MARRY INTERCASTE WITH SC, ST, OBC, MBC.
SO MR. LINGA PILLAI, PLEASE TAKE HEART INDIA IS ALREADY CHANGING.
WE ARE DISCUSSING JUST A HISTORY, AND TRUTH, HARDWORK AND SINCERITY WILL PREVAIL, WHATEVER THE CASTE, RELIGION, RACE MAY BE.

I strongly decry Mr.Pasupathi K Pillai’s harsh comments about non saiva veLLalas despite the actual facts. FYI, Nanjil vellalas fall under forward caste category and, they don’t enjoy backward status as mentioned by him. I dunno much about other non vegetarians. But, Nanjil VeLLalas, being a community with meager population of about (60-75,000) have been occupying high positions in corporate world and, also economically they are well off compared to those so called saivites from the neighbouring Tirunelveli district. Moreover, it’s too unethical that Pasupathy has mentioned as if people attain status coz’ of pillai surnames. Sounds silly… Also, I dunno how those saivite vellalas got affected coz’ of that. As for I know, these nellai vellalas lost their pride mainly coz’ of the attitude they have towards life & people just as Mr.Pasupathy seems to have.
Being a person, who makes money out of running websites for matrimonial sites for non vegetarian vellalas as well, he should have expressed restraint when he makes statements that create hatred among the society. It’s so sad that people confine themselves within a small boundary made up of hatred and, over pouring self appraisal about things that does n’t seem to exist. Bad that I need to come down to the level of Mr.Pasupathy to condemn his rude attitude.
Also, below is the link for castes that fall under backwards caste as per the government gazette.

Is it true that some indians 'tamper' with their names to hide their true identity, just like the jews did in the USA during the 40's and 50's. My personal opinion on this is that indians are generally very racist, particularly amoungst their own kind and therefore will do anything to appear better than their fellow nationals. Unfortunately when they do decide to give themselves an english name for example, they tend to use two enghlish christian names, such as John George. How unenglish and pathetic!

Hello friends,
I appreciate your concern about growing racism. Even I am against caste and creed! Mine is also inter-caste marriage.
Fine! But, can anyone of our friends touch the heart and say....that they can live in this world happily without identifying oneself with race, caste, religion? Almost impossible! Day-in, day-out, discrimination is practised thro. out world in one way the other! Name any nation, any country, any region..you have discrimination! People who ar broad-minded are ill-treated. People who are for truth and harmony are dubbed as helpless! Uppercaste ill-treats lower caste! Lowercaste when gets a chance repeat the same! Where is the end? Who will educate these educated scholors? So, this is never ending story!
Nothing is wrong in Mr.PK Pillai's work! Lets all stop talking about race, religion and caste then I will be the first person to oppose Mrr.Pillai.
regards,
GK
