I want to know about the Gowda communtiy of South India. What is there origin and where they are found? Is there any relation between them and the Gownders, Gounds and Gonds?

  I am really shocked to see this.people arguing that my caste is greater than the others.i am 6000 n brahmin.although i have a mix of andhra and karnataka,it is shocking that u guys are fighting for caste.I live in vancouver,canada right now.i am a student here.when i look INDIA and INDIAN people from here,we live in the BEST of countries,trust me.people like you should contribute to india's strength now, rather than this timeless bickering.india's think tank see INDIA'S GDP grow by 9% .your aim is to contirbute in your own way and see that U either maintain or increase it ,IMPROVE INDIA FOR it is our responsiblity.caste ,regionalism and i donot know if there are any parameters on which a fight can start,but it is a shame.the worst part is that u guys are not erasing it but are re-kindling it.

  Marathis, Tulus, Coorgis, and even some Tamils in the border regions, Tribals were already in Karnataka before Kanndaigas became a Kannada nation and in todaysworld created Karanataka.
  
  Raja is correct in saying that Karanatak has the lowest number of a ethnic group to which the linguistic state of Karnataka state was formed for. How can the Kanndigas force the Tulus, Coorgis, Martahis to learn their language when Karnatka is put toigether with all these linguistic minorities ?
  
  This insecurity is the reason for linguistic problems in Karnataka, add to it till late 1980 Karnataka had not Kannda but I think Sanskrit as an official language
  
  Well at the end if B'lore becomes a parochial city it will loose all its foreign investment so cosmopolitanism is the only was for survival of Karnataka and people of that state.

  Some research says caste system might have originated from arya and dravidian culture initially..groups of people who had similar activity grouped together were called with a name in olden days..its really silly to figure out who is better than whom..
  
  Do you want to give a group of software guys a name and medical guys a name (like caste name) so after years they become Software caste, Medical caste etc...

  yeah, gowdas(vokkaligas) are hard workers and are closely related to us.
  people of karnata are better than the people of tamilnadu. it all started by a bloody tamilian in this group.these Arava fellows have no other work but to brag about their silly language with 26 letters. kannada and Telugu are the best.

  the present gowdas of tamil nadu originally shifted from karnataka, not during the period of muslim rulers as most commonly believed, but probably during a drought or famine that drove them towards fertile lands. their settlements enroute the far end of tamilnadu proves this theory. my personal survey reveals the fact that the gowdas of tamilnadu have started from Chira district. they crossed thunga and bhadra and entered the region now known as tamilnadu through nilgiris. they continued their journey via coimbatore, vedasanthur, dindigul, theni and at last cumbum which forms the end region of their setlem;ent. the gowdas in these areas speak kannada even today. a close study shows that their settlements were made either in the river beds or very fertile lands where their cattle could easily be raised. the gowdas of tamilnadu still stick on to their old traditions which keep them unique among other tamil speaking communities. the gowdas of tamil nadu were and are a very good example of co-living. they developed good relationship with the neighboring communities and lived in harmony. they occupied majority of the farm lands and cultivated them. they are supposed to be the best agriculturalists of the area where they adapted to live. some of the comments in this site shows extreme hatred towards a particular language and race. let that not be so. it is very important that all gowdas should unite and do some thing productive both to the community and to our nation. it is more important that india's integrity should not be disturbed by such mean men's views. let us not listen to the chavonists.   I am surprised and shocked at some of the answers here given by a grooup of people..
  Instead of sharing information of about a great country like India you people have made a mockery of it.I think it is a shame on all those people who think only about a community/caste,religion or color.Such a unision has never led to a cumulative gain of the society.

  Gowdas are second major community in Karnataka some are out state also more of gowdas are rich they love politics very musch they dont like these sc or st people because they are like govt Brahmins gowds are very strong so only DevaGowda became P.M of India and S.M .krishna as C.M of Karnataka tbey .
  Gowds are from long back in Karnataka even in north Karnataka Lingauths were gowds long back when Basvanna was influenced them they were converted to Lingauths gowds dont have any starting of there caste.
