What is the count? Various sources give differing figures from 60 - 80 million.

What I gather from these sourcesTamil Nadu has 56 - 60 million.

What is the Tamil population of Sri Lanka - 3.3 million?

Malaysia has 1.5 million Tamils??

Singapore 180,000.??

There are Tamils in South-Africa, Mauritius, Fiji and many European States.

So what is the count? Where can I see a close approximate?

  Well the TN population isn't increasing due to Family Control in TN which is interstingly encouraged in TN than any other states in India by Central Government! The Central government doesn't want the population of TN to grow up and also It's like to keep down the population of TN by calling it a family control or population control as you call it! The result of the population control in Families have showed up in the number of TN MP's going to Indian Parliment decreased by 1 to 39 from 40! Although India call TN as part of it...the traitorism still continue...but now day it's easy than when TN was a separate country ...way long ago and since it's under the Central government...TN, Thamizh and TN people and the land and their rights are like puppets in the hand of Indian Central Government...where they can do anything! Not to mention the fact in Thamizheezham the number of MP's in 'Jaffna' decreased by 1 to 9 from 10 due to the fact lot of people from 'Jaffna' immigrated to foreign countries which was and still encouraged by Singhalese government!

  The total no. of MP seats from the state of thamizhnaadu is 39 and when we include the pondicherry union territory's 1 MP seat it adds up to 40.
  
  There indeed, was a proposal mooted by this heinous BJP govt. during 1998-99, to "re-allocate" the MP seats to indian states according to their population density.
  
  Since southern states like kerala, thamizh naadu et al were very efficient in implementing the family control program - we have comparatively lesser population densities to northern indian states like bihar and UP etc..
  
  Actually, the Indian Govenment MUST provide incentives and positive encouragement to states like thamizhnaadu for effectively managing the family welfare programs - BUT they were trying to rewrad stupid and barbarian states like UP - by allocating more MP seats to them and cutting down TN's MP seats.
  
  The previous DMK govt. fought hard with the BJP govt. at the centre and exposed the fraudulent and conspiratorial nature of the hindhiwallahs and northindian thugs.
  
  Thus that backward move was stalled by the DMK and thamizhnaadu's MP seats were saved.
  
  Actually thamizhnaadu has every right to claim more MP seats on the basis of implementing the welfare schemes better than north indian staes.

  Correction: The central government doesn't support and doesn't give a thing to TN establishment on welfare status, It doesn't have any concern over it anyway!

  Thamizh nAdu government was encouraged on such basis and was supported interm of the Interior Central government on such progress toward the depletion of MP in the parliment, I don't know why Central Government of India shows much more interest on decreasing the population of Thamizhars but never give anything to any good things to do the Thamizh society (In it's way it never have and it never shall!)
