How long was the Pillai community established in Kerala?

As being common caste like Nairs, Pillais are a big community in Kerala. Obviously of Tamil origin, how long was this community in Kerala? How many decades? centuries?

I am really interested in the Pillais' of Kerala!
What were their position in the caste consicous Keral (ie. in the past!)?
Aslo did they migrated to Kerala from today's TN in the first place?
Later for some reason(may be arrival of Namboorthies? or Later Chola invasion?) did they emmigrated from Keral to settle in today's TN and NorthEast of Srilanka?

Are Nairs are originated from Tamil? I heard that they are from Telugu. Naiks/Rajus migrated from andhra and settled in Tamilnadu and kerala. The people who setteled in TN are called "Naickers" and in kerala they are called "Nairs".
Sorry, If I am wrong.

Mr. Naicker,
You are wrong, Kerala has no connection with Andhra.

the pillai, actually chetti pillai is what is meant as there are pillais in nairs also.. must have been a trader caste, not warriors as the nairs are, and they are still good traders. One wonders if they were from the same stock as the nampoothiris, syrian xians who could all be traced back to some foreign migrant community. Cheetipillais now claikm to be nairs even intermarry but they are never from the nair culture. many people have come in to the nair fold, atleast some of these planned dilutions. In Kanyakumari i know of a nair temple recently taken over by the chetti pillais, where the nair nobility is now finished
thank you

hi folks,
Nairs, Naidoos, Naickers, Naiks are all obviously linked. Perhaps even the warlike Thevars of Tamilnadu. We are all the warrior races of ancient South India. Later Budhism, Jainism, Brahminical Hinduism and Islam made transformations and we came to have different languages, scripts, sub-cultures. And unfortunately because we are all subdued by Brahminism, divided, we have become the 'madrasis' with not much power. First we have to get out from the Brahminical priestly tantrums and then stand up. So Mr. Naicker feel happy we are all linked to each other. We all belong to ancient Tamizhagam. Also please note that there are divisive forces still active, even on this page they are there. Keep up your morale.
