Arudko,
I heard that Russians will take away the waste.
But the question is how they will take away them.
It should ideally go via Thoothukudi port.
Again potential danger to TE & TN and the sea life.
I would like to point out two accidents took place recently.
1) Gas leakage in a factory from North India which
affected 800 people.
2) A ship with Oil tanker broke down due to
bad weather in the Spanish coast and has made
a huge environmental pollution across the coast.
Such incidents scare me and I am afraid that
we attract such hazards by giving a huge price.

Nambi,
" heard that Russians will take away the waste. "
If that so, I quiet relieved. But I doubt if the Russians would take care of the contaminated water also. I hope it's not released in to the sea.
About the Ship that sank near Spain recently is said to have been 26 years old and only one hull-ship. According to EU's proposed Shipping standard ( I don't if it's implemented yet) all ships must be younger than 25 yrs old and it must be a 2-hull ship.
I don't think at this moment we can prevent the koodankuLam power plant. Plus we do need electricity (hope they also utilize alternative renewable electrical energy so they won't need additonal nuclear power plant!). So what we can do is to ensure that the safety of the plant & safety of the ships are properly maintained and no further environment damage is done by this plant (by releasing contaminated water etc). As MV mentioned we should create indepedant panely to ensure the required (standard) safe practices of the plant & ship! Beside including foreign experts, we do need to include NGO's too. (Both from TN & TE )!

"we is who? srilankans?"
The 'we' there refers to Tamils. By the way, I don't like to think of my self as srilankan. I am a Tamil and my State is Tamil Eelam!

Hello all,
There is a concern that the garbage collected from tuticorin town is been dumped near the sea-shore(on the way to roche park) and is been litted.
muthunagar.com plans to take this issue to our chairman and hope to get a positive response.

One new project "Zirkonium Plant" is going to come in Pazhayakayal near Tuticorin. This plant is coming under the Department of Atomic Energy. Lot of people can get employment because of this plant. Kindly inform your friends and relatives (who have completed 12std / ITI / Ploytechnic / BE / BCom / MCom / BSc / MSC) to watch news papers daily for job advertisement and getting jobs in this plant.

This plant will be the part of Neuclear Fuel Complex, Hydrebad. This NFC is one of the family project from Department of Atomic Energy. Koodangulam Power plant (NPC - Neuclear Power Corporation) also under the same Department of Atomic Energy.
Zirkonium type of neuclear fuels will be produced from this plant and will be supplied to the nuclear establishments (Nuclear Reactors) in India.

CAN ANYONE ENLIGHTEN THE READERS ABOUT THE FUTURE CONNECTION BETWEEN THE SETHUSAMUDERAM CANAL PROJECT AND THE NUCLEAR REACTORS. WOULD CONTAMINATED WATER FROM THE KOODAKULAM NP, BE RELEASED CARELESSLLY OR ACCIDENTALLY INTO THE INDIAN OCEAN WHICH WILL FIND IT'S WAY TO CONTAMINATE THE FLORA AND FAUNA IN THE GULF MANNAR AND PALK BAY ?
WHAT WOULD THE EFFECTS BE IF THIS KOODAKULAM NUCLEAR PLANT PRODUCE NUCLEAR WEAPONS/MISSILES IN 25 YEARS TIME. IF THERE ARE ANY ACCIDENTS WHAT ARE THE AFFECTS OF RADIATION IN SOUTH INDIA AND NORTHERN SRI LANKA ESPECIALLY MANNAR, THE ISLANDS AND THE JAFFNA PENINSULA ?
IN 25 YEARS OR EARLIER IS THERE A POSSIBILITY THAT THE INDIAN NAVY BUILDING SUBMARINE BASES IN AND AROUND THE SETUSAMUDERAM, OR PALK BAY, WITH OR WITHOUT NUCLEAR MISSILES ?
HOWEVER WAY WE LOOK AT IT IN THE NEXT 4-6 YEARS THIS REGION FROM NAGERCOIL AND TO THE EAST TOWARDS THE BAY OF BENGAL IS GOING TO BE MILITARIZED, AND NUCLEAR ACTIVITY IS GOING TO INCREASE. IN OTHER WORDS WITH THE SETHUSAMUDERAM CANAL PROJECT, AND THE NUCLEAR REACTORS AND THE POSSIBILITIES OF THE INDIAN NAVY VESSELS CARRYING AND STORING MISSILES THIS REGION BECOMES A MOST DAMGEROUS ZONE EVEN DURING PEACE TIME. GOD FORBID THERE IS WAR BETWEEN INDIA AND ANY OF IT'S NEIGHBORS WITHIN THE NEXT 25 TO 50 YEARS. IN PAT 40 YEARS INDIA HAS FOUGHT MANY WARS INCLUDING A URBAN GUERRILLA WARFARE AGAINST THE TAMIL TIGERS IN 1987 WITH OVER 150,000 INDIAN TROOPS IN FOREIGN SOIL FOR A COUPLE OF YEARS.
SHOULDN'T THE TAMIL PEOPLE OF THIS REGION BOTH IN SOUTH INDIA AND TAMIL EEALAM ( PROVINCE), KEEP THIS REGION AS A ZONE OF PEACE THAN A POTENTIAL WAR ZONE INVITING INDIA'S ENEMIES TO ATTACK THE REGION.
IN MY OPINION WE ARE INVITING TROUBLE BY INVESTING Rs.2,000 CRORES IN THE SETHUSAMUDERAM CANAL. THERE ARE MANY OTHER REGIONS THE CENTRAL GOVERNMENT CAN SPEND THIS MONEY, AND PROTECT THE ENVIRONMENT, INCREASE THE FISHING AND FOOD PRODUCTION, PREVENT THE POLLUTION AND NOT DAMAGING THE LIVING FAUNA AND FLORA WHICH HAS EXISTED FOR CENTURIES.
