Chalis lived in the western coastal belt of Sri Lanka outside the direct control of Sinhalese Kingdom with Muslims when Portughese came to Sri Lanka.They still speak Sinhalese with Tamil accent.They are supposed to have brought to Sri Lanka by Muslims in 14 th century.
