In many postings, one can find "Dravidians" shortened to "Dravids" etc. Does that have any thing to do with this cricketer?

  rahul! i would be the first person to be on top of the moon if u read my message. i been watching ur cricket form the age of 7. i am 14 now. so i been whatching u from nearly 7 years. i am from hyderabad but currently staying in houston tx,usa.

  A general comment on whenever discussions on a person's mother tongue takes place.
  1) A person's mother tongue is not decided by his ancistors. But depends on where he is bought up. If it depends on ancistors, do you know Dravid's generaion 500 years back? They might belong to a completely different linguistic group.
  2) Also the talent of a person depends on where he is bought up, the environment during his initial days rather than what was his generation.
  
  That's why Dravid is a Kannadiga. Niether a Marathi nor a Tamilian. Similarily Aishwarya Rai is not a Kannadiga. She is a Marathi because she is bought up in Maharastra. Also lot of great Tamilians who used to talk Kannada in thier home but bought up in Tamil Nadu are Tamilians. Not Kannadigas. But these argument holds good only after the states were divided based on languages.

  indian culture itself is fascinating.take for example the tanjore marathi's who speak marathi with a tamil mix.and there are some families in andhra,karnataka who though speak their native tongues have maharastrian forefather's or foremother's.and interestingly they can also speak marathi.
