"I dont know if its true or false....i dont have that much knowledge in physics or science...but whatever it is , to fall for such things is stupidity! ( this is ofcourse my humble opinion..but i dont mean that those who fall or stupid..so dont get offended!!)."
I am not offended. Personally I am never interested in miracles as they are not necessary for realization. But, there is a tendency among some scientists to offer pseudo-explanations for what cannot be explined away through science - milk episode being one. As such, I saw that only on BBC.

Karthik,
thanx... Hindus have to have some basic understanding of Hinduism and the principle behind our rituals and philosophies....
the lack of a religious education makes the Hindus sway to such 'miracles'..whereas in other religions its the opposite, many muslim saints were killed for the common wahabi bred talibanised folk couldnt understand the mystics....
there was this sufi saint in iraq who used to say 'anas haq' something like our 'shivoham'....he was killed saying that he is a heretic....
whereas among the Hindus, due to lack of religious education the common folks are not able to understand who is true or which are the things which have to be admired to in religion.....
some middle path( not the teravadic one;) ) has to be found out!

Karthik,
Do you know who is Sudalai Madan?
I would like to know whether those who
worship 'Cobra','Karayan puttu','Nadukal','kumkum sprinkled marathadi' are hindus?Whether there are any references about these gods in your Veda?If not how these people are conveniently categaroised as hindus? I think now you will be able to understand why I use the phrase "so-called hindus".

Kumari Venthan:
"Do you know who is Sudalai Madan?"
You mean Sudalai Maadasaami? Yes, He is none other than Lord Siva who is hailed by the Tamil saints like TGS as the embodiment of the vedas Himself. In other words, a typical vedic God! The remaining of your questions have been answered at length in the "vedic roots" thread. You may benefit from reading them.

Lord Viswanath of Kasi is worshipped with the sudalai ash taken from the nearby burial ground for the morning arathi.

sudalai madasami = lord of the cremation ground = Siva .... i think silapadikaram or manimekalai also states that Siva was the Lord of Cremation ground!

Dr. JB,
The Kuladeivam at my parents house is KaruppaNNaswami. He is located at Tirumangalam near Madurai. He presents himself to worship in the form of a Tirusoolam. My father says that KaruppaNNaswami is actually Rudra/Shiva and in this sthalam we worship him in the form of a Soolam rather than a lingam. The most special occassion here is the Sankaraanthi.
But from what I read here it looks like KaruppaNNaswami is normally what we think of as AyyanAr or the Ellaiyappan.

Thirisoolam has been worshiped in Tamilnadu even before the Sangam period and its identification with the Rudra/Shiva happened only after we converted to Hinduism 2000 years ago. Even now many Tamil village temples in Sri Lanka has the thirisoolam and they call it Vairavar (Bhairava) kovils. The worship of Thirisoolam is one of the few vestiges of our pre Hindu Tribal past.

It is quite in order. KaruppaNNasamy is also worshipped in the form of vanngarivaaL, or viichcharivaaL, thirisuula, and vel kambu.
They are usually on a platform under a big tree.
Such temples are known as "kombadi aalaayam".
If people can afford, they build Karupar temples.
In many instances, KaruppaNNasaamy does not allow a temple to be built for him and prefers to stay where He is.
The famous writer Lalgudi Ramaamirtham - Laa. Sa. Ra. - had KaruppaNNasamy as his kuladeivam along with Amman. He mentions about it in his "Paal Kadal".

May be they consider him as belonging to the same class of deities.
But they are distinct. Furthermore Ayyanaar is the Lord of all such deities.

sugrutha,
karuppannasamy = black hued God... only Vishnu is described as Black God... shiva is shown as fair one in all texts...even the Avatars of Vishnu are mostly black in colour(RAma , Krishna..)
btw, the one i mentioned about mayandi, mayi, mayan is based on Piramalai Kallar names which are given to the Vaishnavite Piramalai Kallars belonging to Usilampatti region near Madurai.

Whether tamil gods took vedic names or tamils adopted these vedic gods. It is quite obvious that sankritized hindu pantheon was built on tamil/dravidian gods and philosophy and with the support of sankrit puranas.

In Tamil literature land is divided under 5 categories: Kurinchi(Malaigal)-god:Lord Murugan, Mullai-god:...,Marutham-..., Neithal-...,Paalai-...;
Sorry I can't remember other gods. But I am sure Thirumaal (or Maal or Perumaal) , tamil name for vishnu is a god for one land, Sakthi is a god for one more land.
It looks Vishnu is the god for some kallars(thevar), that is why Maaliruncholai god is called as kallazhagar and so many thevars have names like Maayan/Maayaandithevar. We should not say we adopted Hinduism, but lives, beliefs on God and all called as Hinduism. Need more details.

Kumari Venthan - what is the definition of Hindus? The Vedas do not define Hindus, in fact the term was unknown then. It is the Arab traders who called all of us who live on this side of the Sindhu river as Hindus, and the land as Hindustan. By strict definition, Hindus means Indians, i.e., the people who live in India. In my opinion, people in ancient India had no concept of religion in Semitic terms such as Islam, Judaism or Christianity. Unless you consider Shaivism, Vaishnavism, Buddhism, Jainism as different religions.
In summary, do not look to the Vedas for definition of who is a hindu and who is not.
