I don't understand why I got deleted. Anyway...can anyone tell me about the history, the rise and fall of the nattu kottai chettiars.
What happened to their indian and foreign fortunes?

  Naatukkottai Chettiars prominently called Nagarathars is one of the ancient communities of Tamilnadu. They are classified according to their nine nagarathar kovils viz., Pillaiyarpatti, Nemamkovil, Vairavankovil, Maathur, Ilayathankudi, soorakkudi, Iluppaikudi, Iranikovil,.. They are said to be the first community in South India created the system of accounting in trade. They enriched them by opening Universities, Colleges and several schools. No one from this community is downtrodden in recent times. These people are found in a majority in the towns of Karaikkudi, Devakkottai, Nattarasankottai, Puduvayal, Kandanur, Kaanadukaathan etc., a good number is also settled in Madurai. Their history goes back to several centuries back when a king pushed them apart Vellaru river which is now in Pudukottai District. This community has close links with Nadar Community of south India. Prominent among Naatukottai chettiars are Rajah.Sir. Annamalai Chettiar, Dr.M.A.M.Ramasamy , SPIC A.C. Muthiah, Dr.Alagappa Chettiar etc.,

  Chettiars are people who can be considered a race. Well, what more can you say about a group of people who made so many temples, does pooja in them, who were the main reason why Hinduism(Shivism)has spread far and wide out of India. Who were responsible for the establishment of great Hindu empires ouside India. Who had the tennacity to fly there own flag(Singakodi)in the Chola empire. And not the least who could be considered as one of the most successful wealth creaters of India.
  What can one say about a group of people, who

  chill dude, looks like the chettiars have been bothering you!! i dont find anything wrong in being proud of what a community has done... the chettiars have done an aweful lot to the development of the commons in both the social and religious ways... so full credit to them. if u still think that ur right then it only shows that you r jealous of the cultural heritage of the chettiars.

  Chettiars have been historically the patrons of Art, Culture, Temples in Tamil Nadu. It was because of their support, art, culture and religion flourished in the periods of the Cholas, Pallavas, Pandyas et al.

  To tell ya the truth Nagrathars are more stinkiest people in this planet. They are so mean people. Its all about money for nagarathars. Nagrathar womens are horrible. Nagrathars are still in 19th century. Need to grow. What good this community got more educated people. But still these people are more CASTE HARDCORE. More uncivilzed filthy rich people.   I heard lot of srories about Nattukottai Chettiars. People who belongs to this community are merchants , traders & ship oners , They have a great history.Unlike bhramins who beg and live
  Chettiars had commercial links with England. France Holland etc and also with Burma ,Indonesia
  and China. Since historical days They were oners of merchantile fleets plying all over the Indian , Alantic and Pacific ocians .They toiled so hard to uplift the economy of our Bharatham.

  Naatukottai Chettiars have done a lot to the Cause of Education and Religion. The Banking industry was found by them. Most of the Chettiars had done business in Singapore, Malaysia, Burma, Indonesia etc.,

  You go the temples in south India (Even Varanasi temples' morning pooja (kattalai) is still by Nattukottai nagarathars. You attend their marriages. Then you will know about their stinginess.
  Naatukottai Chettiars speak pure Tamil. They have a flair for Tamil.
  Naatukottai chettiars are basically vegetarians and because of their foreign contacts part of them take non-veg food

It is because of this stinkiest people big temples like thiruvanamalai, chidambaram, kasi the list is endless in fact are functioning well and have great assets to run them. if they where so stingy why would they be spedngin so much for temples and education , BTW they have huge contributions to education too . the land in which CECRI KKDI , Alagappan University, Anna University are situated where donations to the scoiety by Alagappa chettiar and Raja sir.Annamalai chettiar.   in the first place ...this site serves the purpose
  of knowing more abt chettinad....and not to come up with obscure ridicules consequential to ur seemingly bitter experiences....i seriously condemn the usage of such strong adjectives ....man beware ur doing it against a whole clan of ppl with regal
  and regale characteristics.intentionally or unintentionally u have offended the sentiments of lot of chettiars out there.its an elite ethos...and not a backward community as u had mentioned.its a humble request from me ....to this site to stop hosting such loose comments (based on filthy grounds)....leaves a bad impression on the whole community...it wud'nt take me long to utter similar stuff abt other communities ...i can never bring myself to do that ,coz such brash acts do not befit us the chettiars.......and abt the language ....pity eminem for having remained in the dark ....coz chettiars as a race have always been noted for their particular flair for tamil.

  Hei Eminem, what do u think of yourself, what do u know about this community, Just dont tell anything. This Community is more than 20 Centuries Old, they claimed respect from Chola Kings. What do u know about Nagarathar women, great kannagi belongs to this community. You dont understand their culture and the way they live. Do u know that Doordarshan, Main Channel of India has done an detailed coverage of these people and telecasted it on 19th and 26th of November 2004, saying that they maintain the Culture of India. You Goose Eminem.Even though this community is only 1,00,000 strong, but the people of this community are in good positions.
