As we can see in iron age megalithic sites in Shri lanka and south India there was a one civilization flourishing on both sides of gulf of mannar 500 B.C.It both used same Prakrit writings

  On The Topic Of Iron Age In Shri lanka and South India There Will Be A Lecture by Prof.Sudharshan Seneviratne Titled''Shared Cultures and Sacred Space;Megalithic monumentts in Sri lanka and South India at the Indian Cultural Centre in Colombo on 29th January at 6.30 p.m. He did a Dr N.M. Perera Oration on the same topic in 1998 trying to prove both countries iron age culture is depicted in Sangam social structure of velir[may be People associated with irrigated agriculture and kingdoms in south]and Ayars[konars] an allied group to Velirs who were nomadic pastoralists.Hand-out is in N.M.Perera Centre at Kotta road Borella.

  Early people who started these urban civilization seem to have used prakrut dialect close to Sinhalese and they seem to have come to the south from Konkan through Tulu and Kodagu areas as shepherds.Todays land owning cmmunities of Tulu[bunts],Kodagu and upcountry Sinhalese shows striking similarities to people of the north western india.
