HI can anybody clearify me whether sengunthar and kaikolar are the same or there are any differences. Because they seem to use both. Sometimes they call themselves sengunthar and sometimes kaikolar. Can anybody clearify the roots of these people.
Thanks in Advance
Raj

Hi All guys:
U can see visibly that as v r still fighting inhe names of caste and subcaste, "Dsouzas" are trying suppress the Indians by using the same caste card. (In my view, christian evangalism is 1000 times tougher for us to withstand than muslim and hinu fundamentalism). If u guys all from 1st world countries talk like this, its very tough for Tamil comunity in the decades ahead. U r the ones to show light to the remaining population. None can bring a peaceful solution at Srilanka to give life for five million tamils who have a 2,500 year old leagcy behind them (its damn true that Tamils were here in Lanka even before "Vijayan and his accomplies", the born-bengali ancient father of sinhalese arrived in Lanka), offcourse to 15 million sinhalese too.

Will some one enlighten me the rank mudaliyars hold in Hindu Religion. There are mudaliyars in Sri Lanka and some ancient Muslim families from the coasts of Malabar also have the mudaliyar suffix. What do all these mean? Grateful for a well-considered reply.

DEAR RAJ,
MUDALIYARS ARE INFACT TRADING COMMUNITY. THAT IS THE REASON U FIND THEM ALL OVER THE WORLD. MUDALIYARS INCLUDE PILLAI, VELLALAR, SENGUNTHER, KAIKOLAR ETC. HIERARCHICALLY THEY ARE AT PAR WITH CHETTIYARS AND BELOW BRAHMINS.HOPE THIS SOLVES YOUR DOUBTS.

This hierarchy you talk about needs to be revised. If Brahmins were elevated to their high caste status on knowledge/moral/spiritual grounds, then the ground is reallllly flimsy.
I am a NB. I have come across some Bs at work places, who have a big, bad mouth! Their attitudes and behaviours will let you to conclude they are rowdies, not enlightened saints. They have neither the money power like Mudaliyars and Chettiyars nor the spiritual enlightenment/knowledge they are supposed to be having. What makes them higher in hierarchy than others?? Knowledge of C programming?? eh!

its better that people stick to solving their queries....rather than looking down or looking up to the great indian caste drama...my question is where do christian nadars stand in hierarchy vis a vis a vellala mudaliar....i have a friend who is a nadar christian marrying a christian vellala mudaliar ?

Guys... this is one of the most nonsensical, ridiculous blog site i've ever chanced upon. I think Tamilians have much much much more important issues to tackle, than figure out where they stand in the caste hierarchy!!! especially in this day & age! Get a life!

HI FILKS, I THINK THIS SINGARAYAR NADAR RAJAMANI IS RIGHT. LET US GET ON WITH OTHER TOPICS LOOK AT FUTURE.

people like brahmins are spreading filth and false information all over that they are superior
its high time that someone knowing facts just tell the truth to other ignorant people.
no one is fighting here.

I agree with Davie... U see SHAKTIVEL the Singarayar "Nadar" Rajamani HIMSELF IS USING his title ion his name. why not he just let go that... its just the outward things people say. Well its normal for anyone to discuss this as u know the one who denies this , is the one who raises the question during weddings. No weddings take place simply without discussing this. I got to say a few things about the attitudes as well. U see if u really take note, the rotten bad attitude, or people with no Mercy for others are mainly the down caste people. U can see that clearly. the one just sells someone easily with no heart and conscience....this is so visible. Im sorry if I offend anybody here, but this is what I take notice and see around... Sorry again.

HEY GUYS. PL. DON'T OPPOSE USING CASTE NAME IN WITH NAME. U KNOW, GANDHI IS NOT HIS NAME BUT HIS CASTE. GANDHI'S REAL NAME IS MOHANDAS, BUT PEOPLE KNOW HIM BY HIS CASTE. IN GUJARAT, PEOPLE WRITE THEIR CASTE WITH THEIR NAME AND I HAVE NOT SEEN ANY CASTE DISPUTE OR FIGHT IN MY LAST 25 YEARS IN GUJARAT. BUT, IN TAMILNADU, WHERE PEOPLE DO NOT WRITE THEIR CASTE WITH THEIR NAME, THERE ARE N NUMBER OF CASTE FIGHTS.
SO, I WOULD SUGGEST U ALL PEOPLE WHETHER U WRITE CASTE WITH YOUR NAME OR NOT, BUT FOR GOD SAKE, TAKE IT OFF YOUR MINDS.
