  What I know of Vedanayagam Pillai is that he was a christian who was the MunsIf in Mayuram( now called mayilAdhuthurai in Nagaipattinam district). He is credited with writing the first Tamil novel titled "PrathApa mudhaliyAr cariththiram"

  this Vedanayagam Pillai is from Tirunelvelly he was a poojari of some amman kovil near Thamaraparani river before he became christian.

  VEdhanaayagm PiLLai (1826-1889)
  
  He was born in KULaththUr somewhere near Thiruchi.
  Date of birth - 11 -10 -1826.
  Father Savarimuthu Pillai.
  MotherArOkkiya Mary.
  
  He was educated in Tamil and in his twentieth year and joined as the record keeper in the Court at Thiruchi.
  Then he became a translator - Dhubaash - in the district court.
  
  1856, he was appointed as the District Munsiff in Tharangabaadi - Tranquebar.
  Then he was transferred to Siirgaalzi and Maayuuram.
  In 1872, he retired.
  After that he became the chairman of Maayuuram municipal council.
  Died on 21-07-1889.
  
  He was a natural poet. He could compose from a very young age.
  
  He befriended the Great MahaaVidhvaan MiinaatchiSundharam Pillai who was the Teacher of Thamilz Thaaththa U.Ve.Saaminathaiyyar.
  Many of Vedanaayagam PiLLai's - let us call him VNP - poems were appreciated by MSP - MiinaatchiSundharam Pillai. He has given 'siRappu Paayirams' to VNP's poems.
  
  MSP has also composed a poetic piece called 'KuLaththuur VEdhanAyagan KOvai' in honour of VNP.
  
  VNP has given a siRappu paayiram of 20 verses to MSP's 'Siirgaalzi KOvai'.
  
  While he was in Maayuram, he created a 'kanji thotti' for feeding people on the occasion of a very severe famine - must have been the 'Thaadhu Varusha Panjam' of 1876.
  
  For this act of benevolence and charity, he was praised by the Pontificate of ThiruvaavaduthuRai Aadhiinam - Sri la Sri Subramania DEsikar. His friendship was obtained through MSP who was a Preceptor at the Aadhiinam.
  
  VNP was noted as a very wise, honest, and straightforward administrator.
  
  Being a devout Christian himself, he mixed very freely with everybody without any prejuidice.

  About the missing link -
  
  As far as possible I try to illustrate my emails with the appropriate pictures and photos.
  I scan them and upload them up in my geocities. Then I give the link to that particular URL where the photo is found.
  Sometimes I create pages with text and photos.
  But they are not properly compiled into proper homepages.

  About Father Henriques, I did have a print of the 'Thambiran VaNakkam' that is found in Father Henriques book. I must trace the whereabouts and scan it and put up.
  
  There are more than 4000 postings that I have made in these past 5 years. There are also many pictures. They are scattered all over.
  
  If only I had some help, these could be properly laid out in pages and pages and pages.
  
  This would be a good source of information.

  Both are different people.
  
  The title Sastri satnds for 'reverend'. At one time this title was used by the Christian religious teachers.
