I was very surprised to know that the French word for Grapefruit is pamplemousse which sounds very close to bamblimaas. Is the french word a corruption of the tamil word (like mulligatawny in english from tamil milaguthanni)? Any info on this question would be much appreciated. Also can you please list words in other languages that have been borrowed from Tamil (eg, cattamaran from kattamaram, cheroot from suruttu)?

When a language group comes across a word in another language, the group finds it simple to adapt the sound and write in their own alphabets. No surprise. The beauty of tamil nouns or words is in its root word personifying an action (called "Vinai" in Tamil grammar). So, Tamilians saw every thing in an action format implying that the whole (living and non-living) things are supposedly dynamic cosmic dance. To define like how Tamils defined every thing, it must have required extra-ordinary thinking. Only Tamil saints (who became closer to the God by their mind and body controls) could have constructed such a beautiful language-path! So, the question is then when and how the other language speakers did come in contact with Tamil speakers? This amounts to linguistic links. I have several thoughts and opinions. I did not born in a rich family and can not afford to waste my time in this as I have to make a living. In those days, rich (Tamil) people were generous to promote Tamil scholars. Dr. U. V. Saminatha Aiyar was an example of benificiaries. Now, every one is chasing, accumulating, and keeping the money for personal or family welfare.
