Why do we idolize Kannagi?

Yesterday in the television news I saw the DMK leader idolizing Kannagi as rolemodel for all Tamil women. By saying this he has indirectly insisted that all Tamil women should be passive towards acts of infidelity that their husbands commit.Of course Kannagi was virtuous....But she was also a 'door-mat'!!! She is the best example for how people SHOULD NOT ACT TOWARDS THEIR SPOUSE'S INFIDELITY!!
Even Periyar has condemned the act of idolizing
Kannagi.
My humble opinion is that even Karunanidhi does not deserve to be praised as the leader of Tamils (since he is polygamous). This gives a bad name to all Tamils.

o my god! The question was a decent one, and a pertinent one at that..
Mr.Cheran, please try and counter logic with logic and not character assassination.

sir,
kannagi is idolized not for her behaviour towards kovalan's philandering, but for taking on a king in his capital, an alien city. of course there are ways of looking at the same thing. to some people, the moral of raja harischandra's story is that when in need, one can pledge one's wife! similarly some philanderers took advantage of the story of kannagi to justify their infidelity. that's all!
i do not approve of that kind of passivity towards husband's philandering, but one must also remember that the social mores were different in those days. divorce apparently did not exist as an option.

Becoz, Karunanidhi's first wife was a concubine. M.K.Muthu was born for MGR & karunadhi's first wife and he resembles MGR.

Kannagi also known as Paththini Amma in Sinhalese is suppose to be a cult originated among Sinhaleae Buddhists and later spread to allied Jain community in urban centres of the South India.

karaunanithi is a joker. Everyone knows that kannagi is a fictitious character. Yet he idolises kannagi. On the other hand, he makes fun of ramayan & mahabharatha, sying that they are fictitious.
Going by the argument, kannagi can be justified for taking the king to task, but what harm did madurai do to her?
Karunanithi professes to be a ratioanlist, but can he explain how madurai caught fire? Just because madurai tore one part of her breast & threw it?
It is a pity that such an absurd tale is being glorified.

Okay Why Thiruvalluvar idols are thrown out and transporation name changed from TTC(thiruvalluvar transport corporation) to something else, after present govt came to know that he was not a Hindu Saint.

hey lol,
There are still pictures of Tiruvalluvar in buses. Also, who said that thiruvalluvar is not a hindu saint? There is no history on thiruvalluvar. He is to date a fictitious figure. But not for karunanithi. For him,
1. Rama is fictitious, NOT ravana.
2. Puranas are fictitious, NOT silapadhikaram.
