Pillaimaargalil moover ullanar, avar kaarkaaththaar, Odhuvaar and Vellalar. Beyond this I would like to hear more about Pillais. I am a Tirunelveli Saiva Pillai, but still, I don't know much.

  You are only partially correct.
  
  First of all, Tirunelveli Saiva Pillai is one subset of Saiva Velalars. This grouping of Saiva Velalars include Saiva Pillais, Saiva Mudaliars, Saiva Odhuvars, Saiva Chetties, etc., On the whole, this group not just Tirunelveli Saiva Pillai, is more closer to Brahmins in habits (vegetarian) from other velalars like Pandia Velalar, Chozhia Velalar, Nanjil Velalar, etc., who also use Pillai surname.

  Saiva Pillais are spread all over tamilnadu with maximum concentration in Tirunelveli and Tuticorin districts but a considerable number in other parts of Tamilnadu like Kanyakumari, Madurai, Ramanadhapuram, Thanjavur, Trichy and South Arcot districts. Some in Thanjavur and Tirunelveli call themselves as Karkarthar. They all might have a common origin. It could be Pandya Nadu, Chozha Nadu or Pallava nadu could have been too. We should remember that The Great Saiva Velalar Saint Thirunavukkarasar originated in Pallava country.

  Tirunelveli[Thirunelveli]
  Saiva Pillai They call themselves "Patharai Maththu" [very pure]. But this doesn't stop them to intermarry with all other types of Saiva Vellalars. Mostly TSP's from Kadayam, Tenkasi, Tirunelveli, Alwarkurichi, Tuticorin [Thoothukkudi], Kutralam, Papanasam, Ilanji claim themselves as SUPERIOR to other Saiva Pillai's. It's about money, honey. These TSP's are usually Pannaiyars along the Tamirabarani River Side. That's why this 10 Soverign thinking. Otherwise also it is seen that they are good in Scholarly pursuits too.
