Portuguese records mention Jaffna population as Malabaris because they brought thousands of people from Malabar to the tobacco and chilli plantations in Jaffna.
The same people later bacame Vellala of jaffna.

The Thamils of Ceranadu, now Kerala, are not different from Thamils of Thamil Nadu and Illankai.
The word Malabar means a hill country. This name was given by the Arabs to the Thamils of ceranadu. Later on the Portuguese used the same word followed by the Dutch and the English. The reason why the Thamils of Thamil Nadu and Illankai were called Malabars is due to the language they spoke viz Thamil. Because Thamil Nadu Thamils and Ceylon Thamils spoke Thamil they were also called Malabars. There is no other reason for calling them Malabars. The armies of Cholas and Pandyas which invaded Illankai from time to time consisted of soldiers from ceranadu as well. Most of them settled and remained back when Chola and Pandya rule declined. Those who remained in the central and southern part of Illankai embraced Buddhism and became Sinhalese. Those in the north got absorbed with the earlier Thamils. This is the reason why the habits and customs of the Jaffna people are close to Thamils of ceranadu than Thamil Nadu.
Idiyappam, Pittu and Appam not very common in Thamil Nadu are very common both in Jaffna and Kerala.
Many Sinhalese women look like Keralites, even the way they dress.

But many people dont realize that such coomon features of language idiom, food habbits, dressing etc is also common amongst the Tamils of Ramanathapuram and Thirunelvelly.
Indian Tamil is Reunion are still refered by the French as Malabars
Malabari is a common term for both Tamils and Mayalees by French, Dutch and danish colonial documentation.
BUT SO WHAT ? AND WHO GIVES A DAMN about it anyway.

There is a place called Malabar in Kerala coast. So, your story is not true and un-acceptable.
Ramanathapuram and Thirunelvely once under the king of Travancore.

Sengunthas or kaikola from Kanchi. Have you any doubt?
Further, Jaffna Vellalas came from Kerala with Portugeuse for tobacco plantations. That is also true.
Read portugeuse records if you can!

If you go to Kanchi, you would see that many of the shops are owned by Telugus and the signs are in Telugu. If you go to the weavers who claim to be Sengunthar, they too speak Telugu at home and Tamil outside.
Then on Thurston’s book on castes I found that Sengunthar or kaikolar have their fellow caste members in Andhra and have settled down in Kanchi during the vijayanagar rule. Also they intermarried with Andhra Sengunthars. I have forgotton what is the name for them in Telugu.
In an article called People of Jaffa, T.E Tambiah says that many Andhraites from Andhra and TN were settled in Jaffna during the Jaffna kingdom days to organize the Silk weaving craft. Jaffna Kingdom was once paying tribute to Vijayanagar Empire.
Many Telugus in Tamil nadu who have made to begin to call themselves as Mudaliars. I know many Baliga Naidus who call them as Thondaimanadal Mudaiars.
Also many Telugus have come to SL and identified with either Sinhalese or Tamils.

Sengunthars may be the Telegu equivalent of Tamil weaver caste Paraiyans.
Mudali is the same as Pallava in Sinhalese Mul +Dalu= Mudalu=Mudali
Sozhia vellala=Chola
Pandia Vellala=Pandya
Kongu Vellala=Konguttavan=Kongu Rashtra
Pallava Vellala=Mudali Vellala=Pallavas
So it seems the rural irrigated agricultural landowning groups evolved from Right Hand Jain Chetties in the urban centres of the south started to carry the names of ultimate feudal overlords for whom they paid taxes and organized security measure.
So sometimes Royalty and degraded Brahmanas came to the ranks of these landowner in the irrigated tracts of land near traditional kingdoms.

Velu alias Jayapala...
You tried to tell that your Vellalas are brahmans but you miserabley failed.
Further Senguntas started WEAVING as a full time job after VijayaNagar Empire.
Can you tell why your low caste Vellalas use the title MUDALI(YAR) which is a caste name for Sengunthas.?
Parayans which is the caste of ThiruValluvar enjoyed better positions in the Pallava era than the Vellalas.
Your FAIR Vellala is a mix of brahmans and Senguntas otherwise you cannot get the fair color.

hahahahahahah
So Devendra Kula Vellala is Higher than your Vellalas...hahahaha
Vellalas became wealthy during the British rule only. This does not indicate that you belong to a HIGH caste. During the British times only your Vellalas stole the MUDALI for them. Vellalas caste name is PILLAI! So, you are a VELU PILLAI!
Parayans are the weavers for low castes like Kallan, marawan Agampadiyan and vellala!
Your Sinhala explanation is a COMEDY!
Honthatta Sihala Vyakarana Igena Ganna!
Are you trying here to teach Sinhala and Tamil? But you showed you are very much incompetant in both languages.

Mr. Sam the Fool welcome to Thamizh Forum.
First of all Malayalists are Thamizhars with a little corrupted accent of Thamizh. Second of Thamizhars of Yaazhppaanam (Jaffna) are Thamizhars. The name Yaazh stand for the Thamizhans ancient musical instrument Yaazh and the word Paanam comes from the Thamizh word 'paa' which mean Poem and it's also the root word of the word 'paatu' which mean song. Yaazhppaanam could either mean Land of Yaazhp paanars! or the land of Yaazh.
