Could anybody tell me a site or a written source on the firts tami8l inscriptions?I know already the articles of Zvelebil and Mahadevan, but I am looking for state-of-the-art sources.

  Fransesco, you're in the wrong place. I have a hobbyist's interest in Paleography, and I've never found a remotely useful (leave alone state-of-the-art) post in the Tamil History list. It's such a wrenching disappointment. You can't do better than Mahadevan (IMHO). Really.
