Tamil folk music:

The two main places for Folk songs are Madurai seemai and Thanjavur seemai. without any one these name there no folk simply to say. The origin lies here omly.

Gramiya padalkal, Nattupura isai, Nattuppura padalkal and etc... variety of names.

The real songs live here.This gramiya padal gives the realman life experience in a simple and amazing manner. tamil folk means it is uncomparable. for example Mrs.Vijayalakshmi Navaneetha krishnan, pushpavanam kuppusamy, paravai muniyamma, thenisai chellappa etc... how nicely they sung the song. One can give assurance that the reality of music which reach inside your heart lies here only in tamilnadu folks family.

simple folk music may be one of the below which one will really loves and listen for ever

1. Thaalattu
2. Kummy
3. Nadavu
4. Themmangu

  You are wrong.The entire tamil state has Tamil folk songs in different forms.To know about Tirunelvely folk songs and Selem folk songs,please go thro "Naattaar PaadalkaL" compiled by Naa Vaanamaamalai,SS Pothaiyah and ku.sinnappa bharathi. The nellai seemai had also a very good singer,Kaarkki and even now "karisal kuyil" KrishnaSamy is singing folk songs.Many folk songs are singing in the form of Villuppaattu in Thoothukkudi,Tirunelvely and kanyakumari Dists. And also Kaniyaan kooththu,koamaalik kooththu,kuravan kuraththi Aattap paattu are performed there.Kuravanji and Kaavadi sinthu (Raamachandra kavirayar's kaavadi sinthu,Bharathi's sindhu) borned in Nellai seemai.
  Do not tell that all folk songs are in Tanjavore and in MAdurai. Our entire state has a lot of songs.

  Tamil Meenavarkal has a lot of folk songs, I heard one song when they tried to pull out the THONI which was still in the water to the land. When they pull and loose the rope the tempo/words will syncronize with this movement. When pulling the song has a word/words in high pitch and when loosing the rope it would be ketta vaarthai in a husky voice. I heard it some 15 yrs before. I dont know whether the manappadu/kumuli/tuticorin fisher people still have this songs or not. I havent read anywhere abt the fisherpeople's folksongs.

  Can I know from where I can get the 'karisal Kuzhuvinar' vazhangiya isai paadalgal casette or cd.
  I had one during 1989 but now I unable to get it any where. That was using folk songs they were doing satire and also proving strong emotions on 'Podhu Udaimai kolgaigal'.

  tamil folk songs are tamil folk songs---they don't belong to just to one area. take for exampl konggu seemai folk songs - they are fantastic--i have a good collection of them-- my collectons are all from malaysia--still pure and unpoluted.--the best are oppari songs--heart rending--believe it?
