Hi,
In one of the epic, it says about honoring Lord Murugan (Tamil God) with Thean(Honey) and Thenai Mavu ( kind of Ricepowder)to please him.It shows that they did not discover "Fire" that time other wise they would have honored him which are cooked ones.
(Note:They worshiped Hindu God-Tamil God even before they were cultured by fire and other metal ages.this proves hinu religion is old and sacred)
Mostly people where vegetratians and they ate food after cleanning and washing in water and drying them in the sun. They maintained good food habits.
They had fasting(Upavas)for Lord Murugan ones a month , which has two good things one to control hunger and to give rest to intestine which crushes and smashes the hard food. So there will not be any digeative problems for that month.
They beleived food is also medicine, too much or too less of it will also cause health problems.
During the "EVE of Fasting" they had a separate food habits.Like slowly reducing the food amount and after fasting slowly increasing the food amount.
And lots more to discuss.
Thanks
Bharathy Sankar
