Vasambu - Sweet flag - Acorus calamus
parts used - rizhomes
The vasumbu is sliced, stringed and tied round the wrist of newborns.

Uses: nerve tonic, sedative, depression
mental and nervine disorders
antidote for poisonous bites, and antiseptic.

  I am no medicine man! I don't even know where the kidneys are. I came accross this verse of Theraiyar that says, vasambu is used for treating nervous system disorders - like stroke, motor diseases etc.
