Dear friends:
I read 'SidhaivugaL', a Tamil translation of acclaimed Nigerian writer Chinua Achiebe's maiden novel "Things Fall Apart", which he wrote in 1958. Mr. Mahalingam, a Tamil endowed with several years of work experience in Nigeria has done the great job of translating this devastating work.
Frankly, I felt too overpowered and humbled by the brief and powerful novel. If I could use a correct Tamil term to express my state of mind after I read that book, "oru vidhamaana 'thavippu' aerpattuvittadhu". The sense of helplessness and dispossession that the protagonist of the novel becomes our own.
I am sorry to intiate this discussion in English since I have failed to learn posting in Tamil fonts and also since I keep changing workplaces, I could not download required Tamil fonts wherever I go. Kindly pardon me for using English to converse about a great recent work on Tamil.
I look forward to your views.
