Who are this Saptha Kanni and Saptha Maathar?
Are they the same.

  Saaptha kaanni and saptha maadhargal are different.
  Sapta Kanni, I know noyl two of them..Aagaya kannai, Jala kanni..and rest..I am sorry..you can visit Melmaruvathur Temple, and have a note.
  Sapta Maadhargal are, Brahmi, Vaishnavi, Vaaraahi, Chaamundi, Kaumari, Maaheshwari and other one. This you can get to know, at Kachaleeshawarar Temple, in Armenian Street, Parrys. Opp to Sri Durga Sanctum..

  Saptha Mathar are called Saptha Mathruka.
  They are the inherent sakthis which resides and activates each devas.
  
  Whne AmbaaL was engaged in the Sumbha Nisumbha war, the devas decided to send their sakthis to help AmbaaL.
  From each one of six devas, six sakthis came out.
  Brahma - Barhmi
  MahEsvara - MaahEsvari
  Kumara - Kaumaari
  VishNu - VaishnNavi
  Varaha - Vaaraahi
  Indra - Aindri
  The seventh sakthi was from AmbaaL Herself. She was known as ChaamuNda.
  
  The goddesses resembled their respective devas in everything - vahanas, weapons, etc. But only the gender was different.
  
  Saptha Kanni are forest sakthis who are worshipped in the villages. They are a class of village deities.
  
  Saptha Mathrika worship was very popular in Tamilnaadu at one time. It is very ancient.
  There is a Vaaraahi in Tanjavur Big Temple. She is said to have some sinister powers.
