This has been a source of concern for many of the friends here. Some of them have already found out how to read and write thamizh scripts, and also are aware of the tools and fonts which are needed for that purpose.
I'm giving the necessary info regarding this issue, which various people have provided in other threads here.(Special mention : punnahai and madurai veeran)
A lot of people have used 'Murasu Anjal' to compose and post in thamizh script prior to this. But, it is quite a cumbersome process to do it using Murasu's Thamizh text editor.
There is a new, exciting tool which enables us, hassle-free, to write in thamizh script - called
'e-kalappai'. This tool is a free-to-download tool, created by the generous volunteer work of thamizh techno-geeks under the aegis of www.tamil.net , created by Bala Pillai and Muthu Nedumaran.
=======================================================
If you want to just READ webpages which have thamizh scripts/content in it, all you need is a single font -'TSC_Avarangal' - and you can download that fontfile(.ttf) from here :
http://www.tamil.net/tscii/tools.html
In that link, just download that TSC_Avarangal font file(.ttf) from the 'Fonts' link.
It would be better if you could download and install all other 'TSC'(TSCII standard) fonts from that link in addition to 'TSC_Avarangal'.
======================================================
If you want to WRITE/POST thamizh script/content here, you may want to download and install the
'e-kalappai' tool from here :
http://www.tamil.net/tscii/tools.html
Just look in that page under 'Keyboard drivers' link.
The 'e-kalappai' tool let's you to directly 'type' in thamizh scripts in the response box. All you need to do is:
* After downloading that tool, re-start your system, so that the system's registry gets updated.
* Configure your IE browser by choosing 'View' from the Browser menubar, under that 'Encoding' option - make it 'User-defined'.
You can use 'e-kalappai' to compose thamizh script/content in :
* notepad
* word document
* discussion group response-boxes etc..
==========================================
Remember :
==========
If you want to just READ thamizh scripts, 'TSC_Avarangal' font is enough.
If you need to WRITE, start the e-kalappai tool and run it in background. Press ALt + 2 for beginning to write in thamizh, and if you want to revert back to normal english typing - Press ALT + 1. simple!.
=================================================
I thought of adding one more link, which was provided by 'punnahai' elsewhere. In addition to the fonts/tools i have mentioned, you can check out this tool too :
>>
Check this link for typing in Tamil.
I think if you cut and paste you might be able to read too. You dont need any fonts.

I request our friends here to update/add any new info regarding reading/writing thamizh scripts. People can post the queries here to get their doubts cleared.

This is one good thread and is very much useful especially when one is travelling a lot and working from different systems at different places. I have installed the Tsc Avarangal in almost all the computers I accessed in the past three months.
That umaruthambi site is also very handy, usually i come to this thread and then visit that site for reading the tamil pages.
Good work. Kudos to Neo for this.

mmc,
I dont post any religous hate messages in Thamizh kavithaikal section. And None of the others in the opposite political camp to yours - do any kind of posting in kavithaikal section.
So dont you think its absolutely unfair to carry the filthy hate messages to sections other than Tamil History & Indian History sections??
And in ulagam thread too nobody posted anything against your camp before you started this ugly hate flood.
So why dont you & other "activists" like karuvaayan & surya et al - leave thamizh kavithaikal & ulagam thread out of this ugly bickering???
You got other sections anyway aint yu?
Please do not flood every forum of this site with hate messages faking my id.
Even India & pakistan have agreed for ceasefire in the LOC! so why dont you control your troupe and ask 'em to restrict this nonsense to just the history sections?
Does it have to get this ugly for the forumhub readers - for you to have the miniscule happiness of soiling my id?...
Think about it trusting that i did post this with all sincerity, and leaving out the cynicism for a minute, please.

First of all Periyar liked Thamizh and followed it and tried to get rid of Social Issues like caste and thus acted against the Casteis Brahmins! It's not Periyar Thamizh or My Thamizh! It's OUR THAMIZH (oh and in 'OUR' you don't belong moron)! Thamizh is our tongue, Thamizh is our mother, Thamizh is our language. No one own her, we speak her, she owns us and our tongue.

Nedunchezhiya,
Periyar liked Thamizh? Just read his article on thamizh which was reproduced ad verbatim in kumdam a few months back & then comment.
This very comment shows how ignorant U are about evr's works. By the way, only for his followers, he was periyar. He used to sign as "evr.naicker". Do U understand?
How will U, poor fellow? U live far off in srilanka & now U have run away even farther to canada. Pity U, Dr. No brain.
