  Tamil actress Simran, whose younger sister Monal, committed suicide recently, has come out in defence of her aunt, Veena, with whom her sibling was living.
  
  In a hurriedly called press conference held in the city on Wednesday, Simran also hit out against sex siren Mumtaz and Riyaz, who managed Monal's call sheets.
  
  Defending her aunt Veena who, she claimed, had adopted Monal from her parents as a baby, the actress gave vent to her fury against the local media for twisting matters over the suicide issue.
  
  Upcoming actress Monal had committed suicide on April 14 reportedly because of a failed affair with Prasanna, brother of film dance master Kala and Brinda.
  
  The local media had then suggested that Veena's constant 'wrangling' with Monal over managing her finances, may have also forced the actress to take the extreme step.
  
  Speaking to mediapersons, Simran claimed that her aunt was innocent in the whole affair and the media was unnecessarily dragging her into the picture.
  
  Simran also claimed that Riyaz and Mumtaz, who rushed to Monal's apartment in Kodambakkam on hearing the news of her death, had made good with whatever they could lay their hands on.
  
  "Mumtaz, Riyaz and his brother came to Monal's house on the day the incident happened and took away Rs. 50,000 in cash, her make-up set and her personal diary," Simran alleged.
  
  The diary is said to contain details of Monal's bank accounts and locker numbers.
  
  Simran, who was present at the news conference along with her parents and Veena, said she had the cell phone operators confirm to her that Riyaz was the one who spoke to Monal a little before the latter ended her life.
  
  Riyaz, Simran said, hurriedly left for Thiruvanathapuram along with Mumtaz and his brother, when she reached the city from Canada, where she had gone for a shooting of Kamal Haasan starrer 'Panchathanthram'.
