I personally feels that they don't.

Even great stars like Sivaji, MGR, Rajni and Kamal have always wanted male domineering movies!

We have seen all these stars slapping females and treating them like dirt.

We females have seen enough of degrading scenes with females as mere sex objects.

Don't you people think that its time for Tamil movie makers to show some respect towards females like what Hollywood has been doing for ages!!!

  No I'm not. Gaya3 says only hollywood respects women and tamil movies doesn't. I was pointing out to her that any respect they give women in hollywood just comes down with lots of other bad movies they make.
  
  I've got some tamil movies for you:
  
  1) Karuthamma - It is about the movie when they used to kill girls after they are born( or maybe before they are born) because fathers only wants a son. But this woman grows up against the odds and ends up looking after her parents or something like that.
  
  I didn't see it because I can't get a copy of this movie...but I heard about it. If I'm wrong about the story...let me know.
  
  2) Snegethiyea - Jyothika - Group of girls who are close friends growing up together, and their problems of how when guys after marriage will still have thier fiends but girls after marriage don't have thier college friends. They end up going on an adventure....running away from police and all that.
  
  3) Uthaya - Vijay simran ... it is about a woman who is fighting for justice to get her boyfriend out of jail. It will be realesed soon.
  
  I've got a couple more that I can think of. Living in Australia I don't get to see all the movies....I'm sure there are others who will know more tamil movies which just gives importance to women.

  woman are used as sex objects if not punching bags in Tamil movies. They sit home and cook if not they walk around showing their body parts.
  The hero plays the major part in each and every tamil film. The gal would be his girlfriend. She is only good for run around the tree and sing duet..
  
  When the hero gets in to an argunment he would slap her, the heros friends would curse her sometime slap her.. she would run and fall on their leg and say i'm so sorry for blah blah blah...

  Hey, men can be eye candy for this particular demographic that you have entirely forgotten; Women. Afterall, women are sexual objects for men mostly. I sat through the pathetic movie "Someone like you?" for the sole purpose of Hugh Jackman eye candy.
  
  Why can't a woman be a "macho" heroine anyway? Whether you are able to save lives, blah blah depends on your skills and your fitness.   I think that there are tamil movies respecting women but these are far too few now. Let's just take this year. How many movies showing woman in a positive light other than the usual stereotypes are there? Kannathil Muthamittal, ???
  
  I don't really mind actresses dancing in sexy clothes. It shows that they are comfortable with their own bodies. (Though the costumes that some of them wear is a whole other issue.) It's just that a lot of these actresses usually play a seductress besides doing a one song appearance and their acting is horrendous. Take Mumtaz in that Vijay-Jothika movie. I seriously cannot believe that guys find that really seductive. There are more subtle ways of acting which is more palatable. I liked Kasthuri's performance in Kathal Kavithai. A well-written role. A women who is practical, knows what she wants, has no scruples in going after the man and admits it. Though the acting of Kasthuri in her scenes with Prasanth did annoy me (I felt that she overdid them), here was a normal human character who could exist in a normal world. A mix of good attributes and bad.
  
  In most movies nowadays most leading ladies are eye candy. The so called character actresses have it better in the sense that they do not merely appear for song and dance routines. I guess this won't really change until you start to have bankable actresses. In Hollywood, I believe that women get better roles because they are box office draws. Julia Roberts, Jodie Foster, Sandra Bullock do bring in the crowds. And I guess because of that some studios are willing to try out upcoming actresses in hope that they would become the draw that these actresses are.
  
  Once the top heros stop being ego-centric (I'm pointing to Vijaykanth in all his movies, Ajit in Red, etc.), the situation for leading actresses may change.

  At least English movies allow women to carry guns and take over heros' place, or give them a major roles. Tamil movies!! HMM make women wear loose bras, ask them to run in slow motion, making boobs to bounce up and down. Little clothes to seduce men. Even a smart heroine will end up dancing like crazy woman for a song scene creating a bimbo image, WHY??? And you SENKODAN WATCH WAT YOU SAY, your mom white woman is it?, born 4 Indian why the kolupu???? Dont tell me all the Indian guys want the women to show their bodies on screen ONLY!!   in HEY RAM, people only noticed those kissing and bedroom scenes and blamed kamal ,saying that he doesnt have any respect for women.
  
  but ,if u notice ,he portrayed women in a most intresting way. he showed them as brave people, even more stronger than men. Rani with a gun to protect herself during the beggining, Vasndra Das - was not that dejected finding that her husband is not normal and also she was ready to face the world even after kamal went away from her.So,is Hemamalini who looked brave and intelligent.

  I'm beginning to wonder whether heroines in tamil films have any dignity. The heroes simply slap them and they take it as an act of love and right!
  
  Eg. Yezhumalai and Thenkasi pattnam.
