In 60s and 70s Radio Ceylon(Now SLBC)was the most popular Radio station in the southern part of Tamilnadu. Both local & overseas service of Radio ceylon was more popular than AllIndia Radio because of Radio Ceylon's daylong broadcast of Tamil film music.Their transmiters were very powerful and their programmes were heard loud and clear. But now their transmiters are powerless and cant be heard even in the southern coast.

SLBC broadcast their Tamil programmes even today to the South Asian listners. But no care is taken to develope the programmes as revenue through advertisements has dwindled. Now our people like FM broadcasts which are live and none like to tune to one time favourite RADIO CEYLON.
