  what happen to illayaraja when he disappeard for ten years while arr ruled for ten hole years???even illayaraja,s music suck after arr came into the music industrie..of course illayaraja,s music was ok for the 80's the 70's but the 90's just blasted when arr gave damn good music to us..he is the best...

  AR Rahman is a genius is his own right, but for heavens sake don't even compare him with ilayaraja, who is miles ahead of anyone around.
  
  "illayaraja,s music was ok for the 80's the 70's" this is what happens when ignorance is passed off as smartness!! if you have time off rahman's classics like kathal virus(lol!!), try listening to the songs of friends, en mana vaanil, azhagi and kaasi. and i think these are movies which came much after the aforementioned 70s and 80s ;)
  
  you can sum it up this way. ilaiyaraja's music has survived decades. but rahman, think about his greatest hits, like mukkala muqabla, thillana thillana, humma humma or ottakathai kettikko. how many people can you spot humming to them now?? check out any audio tape outlet and ask who's selling hot when it comes to compilations and vintage stuff. you'll get the answer, son. at least you'll think again before saying something so outrageously dumb!!

  If Illayaraja was better than AR Rahaman, how come AR is busy getting recognised internationally while Illayaraja is still trying to cope in the Tamil Film Industry.
  AR Rahman even won the MTV Asia awards last year and I wont be surprised if he gets a Grammy Award soon. It is abvious that he is the "King of Music" and we should be proud because he is an Indian.

  Presently i am not sure who is the best as quality of music is varies every year for the music directors.
  
  To me Illayaraja will be the best. He got his own style and doesn't not want to change them to present trend and melody.
  
  Illayaraja had given varieties of tunes and they are unforgetable for life long. I can call him genious in music. I would list out few things which Illayaraja has proved himself:
  
  1. For continous 20 years he is the only top musician for Tamil cinema
  
  2. In 60's & 70's, many Tamilians prefer to listen Hindi songs as the Tamil songs has not given satisafction. Illayaraja is the one who change the trend and his music diverted to listen Tamil songs.
  
  3. He is the only music director who had scored more than 30 films per year.
  
  4. Although he score music for many movies per year, the quality has not declined. 90% of the movie songs will be super hit. If there is 5 songs in a movie, all the songs will be fantastic. That is really amazing!
  
  5. He takes little time to score music for a movie. You all know that Prabu's Chinna Thambi was super duper hit and the main reason was Illayaraja's song. Do you all know how long did he took to make tune for the music. It is just 30 minutes. Wow!
  
  6. There are some average movies were Super Duper Hit becuase of Illayaraja songs. I can name few such as Thendrale Enai Thodu, Amman Kovil Kizhkale, Karakatakaran, etc.
  
  7. He is the only music director to have cut-outs in theaters for his films.
  
  8. He proved himself for Hey Ram retuning of filmed song.

  atlast it makes me proud that being a tamilian i have not missed his wonderful tunes.......!!!
  
  ohhh!!!thank u my god for sending a great music director to our tamil people.....!!and no ones music can ever be compared to these tunes....!!!
