Well during the last Oscars we saw how Crouncing Tiger Hidden Dragon won Four awards. Well to my suprise our movies were not even in the nominees.
It is a shame that a Nepalese film was there.
We are showing of with big budget films but i still don't see the impact. Is it true that our movies are categorized as musicals only?

Hey Anesh .. OSCARS are meant for US Movies only ---- in short they are pretty biased ...People relate to OSCARS only because of the hype ... Try following some of the international film festivals where several of our movies - MANI RATNAM's ADOOR GOPALAKRISHANANs SHYAM BENEGAL's ( to name a few) have won accolades ...
Several Indian movies compare to and out do some movies which have won oscars -
NAYAKAN - the indian movie to make it to the top rung in OSCARs - it lost out to a czechoslovakian film by just one vote .
ROJA , ANJALI , PYAASA , KAAGAZ KE P H O O L , SALAAM BOMBAY , GURU --- surely deserve OSCARS ( sorry i dont remember some of Adoor's movies )

Alaipayuthe! you must be joking. When there are people who think Alaipayuthe for Oscar how can we make films to meet Oscar standards. It's pathetic.

The infrastructure is there. What you need are:
1. A good script. Not someone like Devibala who does not know the difference between Helen Keller and Uri Geller.
2. Find a heroine who KNOWS and CAN SPEAK chaste Tamizh. No dubbing voices please! Also no imported heroines, please. If this cannot be helped, let them talk their own tongue.
3. Find a singer whose pronunciation is good.
4. Find someone who does not kill the song with loud orchestra.

i think the problem is with the majority of the tamil movies fans.heyram is a movie of international level.unfortunately most of the fans did not understand the story or simply do not like it due to its new n realistsic apporoach.so it became a flop in terms of money though it backed awards in india.how can producers venture into movies which have new apporach or rather realistic apporach becoming
a flop while movies which have the same old very very unrealistic material becomes a hit.this is very discouraging to those who can n want to lift the standard of tamil flims.

The best think is to remove rahman`s music from tamil films world to get the oscar standard because he is copying music form abroad.
It is not creation it is just new package or new form of others music. Stupid.
Good luck to tamil film world.

Tamil films are not Oscar material because Tamils, (Indians in general) emphasize quantity not quality. They think that the more they produce the chances are better. The Irony is that they have few who produce more that is way the quality is so low. They must cut down on the quantiy and try to improve the quality. At the same time there must be more to compete and push the quality higher. They need more directors(atleast a dozen more) of the calibre of Bharadhi raja, Balu Mahendra, Mani Ratnam etc. There must be an emphasis on originality on the part of the audience. They we can expect some Tamil movies getting nominated.
At the present state of affairs I am not atall surpriced that Iranian, Taiwanese, Mexican and Nepalese movies get Oscar nominations. They diserve it.

Anesh,
I found your posted message not only offensive but rather crude and unintelligent. Frankly, there are too many people like you in the South-Indian movie industry and hence the lack of quality which emerges from it. May I suggest you keep comments like "It is a shame that a Nepalese film was there." to yourself?

Have you seen any of the recent movies? Do you really think anything is worth nominating? The onnly movie I can think of is Terrorist, which was wonderfuly written and directed.
