  Nobody seemed to have seen any movies made before 1980. Anyway, they are mostly good films and it will be difficult to find one with the best ending. I would name most of Sivaji's movie.

  My vote is always for Moondram Pirai.. Excellent climax. If only Sridevi had recognized Kamal and accepted him in her life, it would have been a horrible movie. But the climax where she does not even recognise him is sound in logic and poignant. Hats off to Balu Mahendra and Kamal for making that scene a truly remarkable one.
  
  Kaadhalukku Mariyadhai and Poove Unakkaaga also qualify for the honours.

  moondram pirai is probably the best tamil ending ever.

  'pattina pravesham'(1977) was brilliant in ending ina symmetrical fashion to the start.
  most films have happy endings but'anbe vaa'('65) was just so funny and brilliant.

  Roja koottam had a very good ending but then Bhoomika should have went up to srikanth and said "will you marry me and look after me till death do us apart?" And srikanth should have said yes. Then Boomika should have gave him a big hug...and then they finish it the way they did...with that 50 Ruppee....it would have been a touch better if they had it like that.

  nasser feels very comfortable with his false face that he chooses to live with it, than going for his original face. (which is a very striking metaphor). very solid performance by nasser, especially, when he dances with the false face in his hands.
  excellent background score by ilaiyaraaja towards the end.
  
  2. pesum padam: a very poetic story with a equally poetic ending.
  
  both these climaxes dont have much dialogues, but only facial expressions and some scintillating background music from ilayaraaja, excellent stuff.
  
  i havent watched anbe sivam till now.
