  actually i was striving to see a such thread started.... :-))
  
  what i feel is :
  
  first of all the comparison itself is wrong. rajini should not be compared with kamal at all, or the vice versa.
  
  rajini can be compared with vijay kanth or sarathkumar or such action heros. kamal is an actor but not a hero. kamal can be compared with shivaji ganesan, nagesh, nazar, or such type of people. they are really a competitive actors.
  
  rajini has acted as a "dhadha" in the film basha. kamal has done the same type of role in "nayagan". but kamal CANNOT snap his finger up and talk a dialogue "naan oru thadava sonna...." that will never get applause from audience. whereas, rajini CANNOT cry out aloud when nizalgaL ravi is dead. that can NEVER be expected out from rajini. but both are dhadha charcters.

  kamal has acted as 'adiyaaL' in the film 'sathya' and rajini in thaLapathy.
  
  had kamal acted in thaLapathi, he would have found it difficult to deliver a dialogue which rajini does in casually : "ithu surya sir... urasaathInga..."
  
  whereas :
  
  rajini could have never reacted as kamal do in sathya, when kitty says : "sathyaavukku enna oru sincerity paathiyaa?"
  
  but both are adiyaaL characters and both are unique by their own way. how to compare ?
