I have been a fan of Kamal Hassan for a long time and Abhay/ Alavanthan is a serious letdown. The only saving grace is Kamal's acting (which, in this movie, is somewhat overdone on the Psychopath's role), and bizzare special effects.

It was very difficult to sit through the entire movie. I sat thru it completely to demonstrate my faith in Kamal Hassan to my girlfriend who was with me.

Sigh! What a let down!

  Kamal has shown his perverted Mind and his obsession toward Sex and Violence in his movie
  
  It is a great insult to Tamils that in this movie , all importance is given to North India. It is not a Tamil Movie at all, it is a Delhi Based North Indian movie Dubbed to Tamil to fool Tamilans

  How good a film is Kamalahasan's Abhay? A bilingual film titled Aalavandan in Tamil, the film has evidently thrilled many who worked in it, including Manisha Koirala, who cannot stop going gaga about Kamal Hassan's professionalism.
  
  But from what we are hearing from a few informed sources, the film is unlikely to work wonders at the box office. Says an insider: "It is a gimmicky film and, from recent experiences, we know that the Hindi film viewer does not take to such ventures very kindly."
  
  Another well-known filmmaker sounds almost bitchy when he tells us: "Kamalahasan is a great actor, but the problem is that he refuses to think straight. Also, I constantly wonder why so many of his characters have some physical defect or the other."

  If you go and see Alavandaan expecting to see the usuall Indian movie stuff like family sentiments and boy running around a girl,then you wont like the film.
  The reason why people dont like the movie is because they dont pay attention to the CGI (Graphics),Visual effects,stunts,audio effects and the DTS soundtrack.

  I thought Aalavandan is thriller or entertainment movie as per advertisement and interview. Kamal always said that this movie will be appreciated by all types of interest.
  
  Now i receive so many feedback and some says that this movie can only watched by matured, non-indians, artistic, etc.
  
  Kamal expected this movie to be entertain everyone but it turned out to be something else. That's why they spend so much of money!
