The movie has a happy ending!
but..
I was told by one of my aunt that it was a novel in anatha vigadan or kumudam.
The ending was tragic, where mohana dies due to mental torture given BY Shanmuga sundaram, due to his dubious nature. How true is it?
Any hubber who has read this novel? Is the novel better than the movie itself?
Who was the author?

I think it came in Kalki... written by Kothamangalam subbu... not very sure abt the end of the novel..
But the movie was a classic one... brillance in all fields direction, music, dance, comedy, dialogues, romance etc etc...
even now its one of the rich movies

Another factor,
In the movie the hero is Nagesh... actually anti hero.
May be with or without knowledge of Sivaji and or director Nagesh was in main part.
But internationall award went sivaji. How didn't they recognise this ?

There was an older thread on the same subject.
The novel came as a serial in Aananda Vikatan in late 1950s. There is more to it than the film. Mohana has children and their stories etc...
