1983: KamalHaasan for Moondram Pirai
1989: KamalHaasan for Nayagan
1997: KamalHaasan for Indian
2004: Vikram for Pithamagan

Vikram have joined Kamal and MGR as the only actors from Tamil Movies to have won the The Best Actor Award at the 51st Indian National Award.

Vikram fought off his closest rival Kamalhaasan for Virumaandi.

  I knew an actor then, I remember him as the charactors he did in the movies he acted such as sikkal shanmugasundaram, prestige padmanaban, sp choudhary, barristor Rajnikanth, mUkkaiya sErvai, respected man with no name in mudhal mariyaathai and so forth. He was a hell of an actor. He was never awarded National award as for the best actor ever. But mgr (for rickshakaran), kh and vikram had been awarded the award which nadigar thilagam was not awarded at least once.

  Personally, I don't agree on that. I strongly feel that apart from Vikram himself certainly Maddy & Vijay can do the role of Sakthi in Pithamagan. Not sure about Ajith though (although he did a pretty decent job as a handicapped person in the movie Villain). But this in no way takes off the credit for Surya's performance as Sakthi :-)

  the character u are referring to in Kaasi is Rajiv the villain of the movie & not Nazar. I agree that Kaasi was a tear-jerker but at least the redeeming factor in the movie was that the pathos was evoked more through the rest of the characters than plainly infusing self-pity on the blind man Kaasi himself!

  Now this gives a chance for our UKW to complain/crib one more time about how our "Over Nadigar Thilagam" missed his best over-actor (oops! correction) best actor National award. Hehehe :-) Just kidding :-)

  They all DID OVERACT to get the oscars and national award. I wonder why should not Shivaji overact and win a national award?????

  Actually, I'm not a Shivaji hater or anything and as an average cinema goer/watcher, I admit that he did act well (no over acting) in "SOME" of his movies like Mudhal Mariyaadhai for instance. Ok, I'm calling it quits regarding this topic about "over-acting" because this will become yet another never-ending debate :-)

  There are lot of actors in india who were awarded National award once or more times..
  
  Why French Govt never even considered all those national award actors,but choosed Nadigar thilagam for Chevalie?

  - okay. our nadigar thilagam didnt get the national award because, our tamil movies were not noticed during those years. ( but during those years, mgr got it for rickshakkaran... i didnt want to comment)

  there are no. of talents in tn who were not given due credit. eg. have you ever seen or heard about a musician who writes notation without help of any instruments? we have him here in tn... still begging for sponsor for his next symphony project.

  i dont want to argue whether nadigar thilagam over acts or not. but if i think of raja raja cholan, veerapandiya kattabomman, or lord paramashivan.... i see them only through nadigar thilagam.... how about you ? cool... :-)

  - i have never seen vijay speaking a lengthy dialogue in any of his movies, as surya does in pithamagan ( sales talk ). maddy does speak dialogues but i doubt the clarity of his ucharippu.

  Yeah, I can also tell Shivaji's Rajnikanth role in Gauravam can very well be done by Brahmin actors such as gemini Ganeshan or our thalaivar KH. How can anybody disprove that, anyway?

  He's the best actor right now. Obviously he deserved this award. And I wouldn't be surprised if he gets another for ANNIYAN. Just waiting to see him again !
