I think that in the history of movies throughout the world, Tamil movies have the most number of untalented big time stars.
These include very successful stars like even MGR, Rajini, Vijay.
I don't think that any one of them could have survived in any other language films.
Let's face the facts: MGR may have been a great person but as an actor ...
Rajini improved a lot in his later movies when he incoporated comedy in his acting but otherwise his scope of acting is very limited.
vijay is good with his dance movements but otherwise there's almost nothing...
The fact is, they could be great people but i'm judging them only on their acting skills...
I'm sorry but this is how i feel ...

I wouldn't agree with you on Rajini though. Rajini is actually is a very good actor which is amply demonstrated in his earlier movies where he played both villain, hero character roles. Examples would include Mullum-Mallarum(affectionate rowdy brother), NetriKann(hero and villain), ThilluMullu(comedy), Avargal(villain husband), AaduPuliAttam/16 vayathinilae(villain) etc. to name a few. Out of choice, to compete with kamal who was better with his versatility, he went ahead to seek top slot by coming out with masala movies.
Will agree 100% with you on Vijay. The guy is not even self-made. Has his dad and mom who were in film industry already to put him where he is now. He is standing with a lot of muttu-kattais underneath him!
MGR's case is interesting however! Although not a great actor, he had a magnetic charm and charisma about him that people were willing sacrifice themselves. Present TN CM is actually reaping benefits from his association. One thing to note is that MGR is totally self made. He came with nothing, was eating peanuts for lunch and dinner and made it so big to become no 1 star and TN CM for 10 yrs. He was very sad his mother wasnt alive to see his successes. Thats why most of his movies depict mom-son bonding. So, I would really not call this luck! He worked to get where he was!

Thanks Fainas!
I definately see the vast improvement in rajni's later movies. as a comedian, i think he's suberb and he definately has a style of his own!
I wish producers had not stereotyped him and had given him greater roles and exploited his talents to the maximum!
