Kamal's Thenali leads the show
It's a mega battle down South. As many as eight Tamil films are out there, vying for audience attention. And crores of rupees ride on the back of the big eight!
Leading the show is Thenali, starring Kamal Hasan, Jyothika and Devayani. Clearly, the Kamal Hasan starrer has taken the lead. The film has already done a whopping business of Rs 16.5 crore in its first few weeks. Karnataka distributors alone paid Rs 75 lakh for the film's rights. The film is incidentally the first release in that state after the chaos that gripped the state following Rajkumar's kidnapping. Latest reports indicate that Thenali is doing great business in Karnataka, and considering it's a film of Tamil make, it proves Kamal's popularity in that state.
For the Andhra region, playback singer S P Balasubramaniam reportedly paid Rs 3 crore for the rights of Thenali. And the film's show so far has seen Bala laughing all the way to the bank. The good show of Thenali has had a direct impact on the collections of the other seven Tamil releases in the festive season, although it's too early to say how they will fare at the box office.
